Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) – Specialty Surgery & Anesthesia
  • Avon, NY | Part-Time | No weekends
  • Avon Animal Hospital and Surgical Center

At Avon Animal Hospital and Surgical Center, we are passionate about delivering advanced, compassionate veterinary care while fostering a supportive and collaborative team environment. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) with a passion for surgery, anesthesia, and specialty patient care to join our growing team.
This role is ideal for a technician who thrives in a fast-paced hospital setting, enjoys continuous learning, and takes pride in providing exceptional care to both patients and clients.
What You’ll Do:
As a Specialty LVT, you will work closely with our board-certified surgeons and hospital team to provide high-quality patient care and support throughout all aspects of surgical services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians with advanced patient care and specialty procedures.
  • Perform and monitor anesthesia and sedation protocols.
  • Assist in surgical procedures and patient recovery.
  • Complete patient treatments and accurately document medical records.
  • Operate and maintain in-house diagnostic equipment including:
    • CBC, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and blood gas analyzers.
  • Obtain and process digital radiographs and dental radiographs.
  • Provide compassionate nursing care, restraint, and husbandry for hospitalized patients.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding patient updates, admissions, and discharges.
  • Maintain treatment areas and surgical suites, including cleaning, stocking, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in training and mentoring team members in advanced anesthesia and surgical techniques.
  • Adhere to all DEA, NYS radiation safety, and hospital protocols.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Current New York State Veterinary Technician License required.
  • Two- or four-year Veterinary Technician degree required.
  • Strong anesthesia and surgical nursing skills preferred.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with all hospital departments.
  • Positive attitude, initiative, professionalism, and strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to continuing education and growth within the veterinary field.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:
This position requires:
  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, and restraining patients throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Exposure to animal bites/scratches, bodily fluids, zoonotic diseases, noise, chemicals, and surgical sharps.

Dress Code:
  • Scrub top and bottom with closed-toe shoes.
  • Scrubs are changed onsite (lockers provided).

Why Our Team Loves Working Here:
At Avon Animal Hospital and Surgical Center, we know veterinary medicine can be intense, emotionally demanding, and fast-paced — which is why we are intentional about building a culture where people genuinely enjoy working together.
We take our medicine seriously, but not ourselves. Our team works hard, supports one another through difficult cases, and still finds time to laugh, joke around, and make even the busiest days more enjoyable. We believe you can maintain exceptionally high medical standards while also creating an environment that feels positive, collaborative, and human.
Our culture is built on:
  • Teamwork and mutual respect.
  • Open communication and support across all departments.
  • High-quality medicine and patient care.
  • Mentorship, continuing education, and professional growth.
  • The ability to work hard, have fun, and lean on each other along the way.

We are proud of the environment we have built and continuously work to protect it. Because of that, we are looking for the right person to join our team — not simply someone to fill a position. Technical skills matter, but attitude, compassion, communication, and the ability to contribute positively to our culture matter just as much.
This is a team that cares deeply — about our patients, our clients, and each other.
