Job description

Job Overview

We at M Health Fairview are looking for an Anesthesia Technician at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position would also work at the UMMC East Bank Hospital, with a trial at St. John's Hospital. This position is 80 hours every two weeks on the Day/Evening shift, for 8 hour (6a-230p) or 10 hour (630a-5p) shifts, and weekend rotations as-needed. This job is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

About this Unit:

The Anesthesiology team at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital plays a critical role in supporting surgical care across multiple hospital sites, including UMMC East Bank and St. John’s. Anesthesia Technicians in this unit work closely with anesthesiologists and CRNAs to prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized equipment while ensuring safe, efficient operating room turnover. This fast-paced environment offers exposure to advanced procedures and technologies, making it an ideal setting for individuals with a strong clinical foundation and a passion for perioperative care.

Job Expectations:

The Anesthesia Technician operates as part of the anesthesia team by assisting the Anesthesiologist and the CRNA in the administration and maintenance of general and regional anesthesia, by maintaining, calibrating, preparing/set up and troubleshooting various equipment needs, and by stocking and maintaining par levels of all anesthesia supplies. They provide services for surgical procedures and autotransfusion which may include but is not limited to performance of duties and responsibilities as listed below. The anesthesia technician works under the day-to-day direction of the Anesthesiologist, CRNA and/or Charge CRNA.

The Anesthesia Tech's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Facilitates OR room setup/turnover for anesthesia by assisting with technical anesthesia specific equipment.
  • Accurately cares for anesthesia equipment and is responsible for preventive maintenance of anesthesia equipment by working with Biomed and outside vendors.
  • Reviews daily Operating Room schedule to determine supply and equipment needs for procedures and assist in preparing off site locations for indicated procedures.
  • Maintains and stocks fiberoptic carts, epidural carts, spinal carts, emergency airways bags, and other anesthesia items.
  • Acquire blood products and pharmaceuticals as requested by the Anesthesia team.
  • Assists with transportation support within and between hospitals (ECMO, Impella).

The Anesthesia Tech also assists the Anesthesiologist and nursing staff with hemodynamic monitoring during placement of central lines, maintenance of lines in PACU/ICU and assists in transporting patients with invasive lines to and from OR. Additionally, they assist with invasive line placement, non-invasive monitoring devices and equipment set up, and regional nerve blocks.

The Anesthesia Tech cleans all technical equipment used at end of each case/procedure, prepares equipment for next case/procedure, including the initial cleaning and safe transport of TEE and Fiberoptic bronchoscope. They will also display accurate knowledge of infection control principles, policies, and procedures, including work order requests to repair, maintain, and store equipment.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2 years of college coursework in biology, physiology, anatomy, or related scientific fields
  • 1 year of direct patient contact experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse or related clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Active Basic Life Support Provider Certification (BLS)
Preferred qualifications:
  • Previous related medical experience, operating room experience or completion of related medical/science college level courses, certificate, or degree preferred.
