Job description

Job Title: Magnetic Particle Inspector
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Please Note: This is a full-time, on-site position located in Philadelphia, PA. Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of the role. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the work location or independently relocate prior to their start date. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Summary of Position:
Parts Life Inc. Is currently looking for a Magnetic Particle Inspector to join our Quality team on a full-time basis at our office located in Moorestown, NJ. The Magnetic Particle Inspector is responsible for performing non-destructive testing (NDT) using magnetic particle inspection methods and conducting dimensional, visual, and documentation inspections to ensure product conformity to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. This role supports manufacturing operations by ensuring only compliant product is released for shipment and by identifying quality issues early in the production process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform magnetic particle inspections in accordance with applicable specifications, procedures, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM E1444/E709, MIL-STD-1949, or customer-specific requirements).
  • Interpret and evaluate indications in accordance with acceptance criteria.
  • Select appropriate magnetization techniques and inspection parameters based on part geometry and material.
  • Ensure proper calibration and functionality of all MPI equipment.
  • Set up and operate magnetic particle inspection equipment (wet and dry methods, circular and longitudinal magnetization).
  • Document inspection results accurately and completely.
  • Maintain MPI consumables (dry powder, bath concentration, UV light intensity, etc.) within specification limits.
  • Ensure compliance with written NDT procedures and maintain certification records.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Verify parts conform to engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements.
  • Review and verify material certifications, test reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Perform visual inspections for workmanship, damage, or surface defects.
  • Identify nonconforming product and initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs).
  • Communicate quality issues to production, engineering, and quality management.
Qualifications for Position:
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing magnetic particle inspection and/or quality inspection in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of remote MPI using prods and split coil and dry visible powder methods
  • Familiarity with inspection equipment, machines, and systems
  • Familiarity with manufacturing

Skills, Competencies amp; Attributes
  • Must be proficient at reading engineering drawings
  • Ability to read weld symbols and joints
  • Ability to read and comprehend inspection procedures
  • Ability to communicate with DoD personnel on on methods used and finding of MPI
  • Ability to communicate with in-house personnel regarding results of initial MPI findings and results of MPI findings for corrected welds and methods used as needed
  • A keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and testing methodologies
  • Use of Microsoft Computer Applications (Word and Excel)
  • Understand dimensions and tolerance (GD amp;T strongly preferred)
  • Needs to work on location (Moorestown, NJ) at all times
  • The ability to communicate verbally and through writing in English is preferred

Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing.
  • Experience working with ferrous materials and machined components.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality systems.
  • Experience with Government or customer source inspections.
  • Additional NDT certifications (VT, PT, RT) a plus.
Licensure/Certification
Current Magnetic Particle Inspector Level II certification in accordance with
ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410.
TARGET HOURLY RANGE: $25/HR - $38/HR
