About This Role

Position Title: Weekday Preschool Director

Status: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM (10-month position); approximately 8 hours/week in June & July

Salary: $40,000 - $42,000 annually

Position Summary

The Weekday Preschool Director provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership for Bayside Baptist Weekday Preschool, a ministry serving approximately 86 students and supported by a team of 14 staff members. This role oversees daily operations, staff development, and program excellence while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered learning environment. The Director partners with church leadership, staff, and families to cultivate a thriving preschool ministry aligned with the mission of Bayside Baptist Church.


Bayside Baptist Weekday Preschool is a ministry of Bayside Baptist Church dedicated to nurturing young children in a loving, Christ-centered environment. We are seeking a passionate leader who is called to serve children and families while leading with excellence, integrity, and faith.


What You'll Do
Key ResponsibilitiesSpiritual & Ministry Leadership
  • Lead and model a Christ-centered environment for students, staff, and families
  • Oversee implementation of a biblically based preschool program
  • Build meaningful relationships with families and minister to their needs

Administrative & Operational Leadership
  • Oversee daily preschool operations, including arrival, dismissal, and classroom flow
  • Ensure compliance with Virginia Beach Department of Social Services requirements, local laws, and safety regulations
  • Maintain the preschool’s religious-exempt status and ensure prompt correction of any compliance issues
  • Maintain and update all policies, handbooks, and operational records
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming facility environment

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard teachers, substitutes, and staff in collaboration with the Church Administrator
  • Provide ongoing coaching, evaluation, and support to a team of 14 staff members
  • Foster a positive, professional, and Christ-centered team culture
  • Address staff performance, conflict, and professionalism promptly and appropriately
  • Ensure all staff maintain required certifications (First Aid, CPR, MAT, etc.), background checks, and training

Curriculum & Program Oversight
  • Ensure implementation of a developmentally appropriate, engaging, and Christ-centered curriculum
  • Support teachers in lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional practices
  • Maintain a high-quality learning environment that promotes growth across all developmental areas

Enrollment & Family Engagement
  • Lead enrollment, registration, and retention efforts to maintain full program capacity
  • Plan and coordinate Open House events and school tours
  • Oversee communication with families, including newsletters and updates
  • Address parent questions and concerns with professionalism and care
  • Build strong relationships with current and prospective families

Fiscal Management
  • Operate the preschool in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Prepare and monitor the annual preschool budget
  • Maintain accurate financial and inventory records
  • Oversee purchasing of supplies and materials

Child Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all child protection policies are strictly followed without exception
  • Maintain accurate staff and student records, including health and safety documentation
  • Promote a safe, clean, and secure environment for all children

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to move throughout classrooms and playground areas
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

  • Availability for occasional evening events (e.g., Open House, programs, parent meetings)

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Demonstrates a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Must be, or become, a member of Bayside Baptist Church
  • Agrees to adhere to the church’s statement of faith, constitution and bylaws, church covenant, and moral teachings
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Experience in Early Childhood Education or a related field required
  • Preferred: Experience in educational administration or leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in basic computer programs and technology
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
