Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote (Mon/Fri remote, every other Friday off)
Travel: Local client site visits ~1 day/week; <10% occasional travel

Eichleay is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) experience to support refinery and oil & gas projects in Ferndale, WA. This role focuses on developing loop diagrams, instrument indexes, and construction-ready design packages while supporting field execution and commissioning activities. It is best suited for designers who have worked in industrial or refinery environments and enjoy bridging design and field operations.

Design / Execution

  • Develop I&C design deliverables, including:
    • Instrument Index and I/O Lists
    • Loop diagrams (SPI)
    • Wiring and conduit diagrams
    • Schematics and installation details
    • Location plans and IFC construction packages
  • Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for data and design management
  • Perform material takeoffs (MTOs) and support man-hour estimates

Project / Field Support

  • Conduct site walks and field verification in refinery/industrial environments
  • Respond to RFIs and support construction teams
  • Assist with commissioning, startup, and turnaround activities
  • Ensure deliverables align with project schedules, budgets, and QA standards

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, process)
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and project teams
  • Support senior designers and engineers on multi-discipline projects

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Experience as an Instrumentation or Controls Designer in refinery or oil & gas environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
    • Loop diagrams and wiring design
  • Proficiency in:
    • AutoCAD
    • Navisworks and Bluebeam
  • Experience supporting construction packages, RFIs, and field execution
  • Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working onsite in refinery or industrial facilities
  • Familiarity with:
    • ISA, API, ANSI, NEC standards
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and deliverables
  • Experience supporting turnarounds or capital projects in process industries

You will contribute to refinery and oil & gas projects supporting:

  • Brownfield and sustaining capital work
  • Instrumentation upgrades and system improvements
  • Field-based execution tied to construction and commissioning
  • Multi-discipline engineering projects within industrial and process facilities

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS
