Position Overview: Potomac Testing is actively seeking a skilled and experienced Medium Voltage Cable Splicer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in installing, splicing and terminating shielded medium voltage power cables (5KV to 35KV). This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical systems, supporting the success of our projects.
Responsibilities:
  1. Cable Splicing and Termination:
    • Perform splicing and termination of shielded medium voltage power cables using hand-applied tape applications, separable connectors, and pre-manufactured kits, including pre-molded, heat-shrink, and cold-shrink technologies.
    • Ensure accurate and secure connections to support the reliable operation of electrical systems
  2. Project Execution:
    • Collaborate with project teams to execute cable splicing and termination activities efficiently.
    • Adhere to project timelines and specifications to meet client requirements.
  3. Safety Compliance:
    • Implement and adhere to strict safety practices to create a secure working environment.
    • Conduct regular safety assessments and inspections, with a preference for confined space training.
  4. Testing and Quality Assurance:
    • Conduct testing procedures on spliced cables to verify functionality and adherence to industry standards.
    • Ensure the quality of splicing work meets regulatory and company standards.
  5. Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all splicing and termination activities.
    • Provide detailed reports on completed work, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  6. Equipment Utilization:
    • Effectively use and maintain specialized tools and equipment required for cable splicing and termination.
    • Identify and report any equipment issues to ensure proper functionality.

Qualifications:
  • Certifications:
    • Hold a valid Certificate from the National Cable Splicing Termination Board (NCSCB) for splicing and terminating shielded medium voltage power cables (Preferred).
    • Confined space training is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a Medium Voltage Cable Splicer with a focus on safety and precision.
    • Familiarity with a variety of splicing techniques and technologies.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and precision in cable splicing activities.
    • Proficient use of various tools associated with cable work including cable tuggers, rigging, hydraulic crimp tools and cutters, calipers, and knives/stripping tools
    • Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:
This job involves both indoor and outdoor work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
• Lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
• Climb ladders, staircases, step stools, stand, walk, sit, and operate vehicles for extended periods.
• Bend, stoop, crawl and work in awkward positions or confined spaces for several hours.
The employee may occasionally be required to:
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions including intense heat/cold, muddy and wet environments.
• Perform precision tasks with instruments and fittings.
