Job description

The Durham County Democratic Party is looking to hire four part-time paid canvassers to begin work in September and continue through Election Day. We are specifically seeking to build a diverse group of canvassers who are interested in political organizing and enhancing their skill sets and resumes.


Job Description: Canvassers will work under the supervision of the Durham County Democratic Party Chair and in coordination with the broader Democratic field effort. Canvassers will primarily knock on doors and have conversations with voters across Durham County, with a focus on Durham Democrats’ Opportunity Precincts, where we have identified strong opportunities to increase Democratic turnout. Work will generally take place during weekday evenings and on weekends. Paid training will be provided.


Pay: $22 per hour

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Dates: September 1 through November 3, 2026


Job Requirements: A successful applicant should be - 

  • Comfortable conversing with strangers about politics
  • Able to travel throughout neighborhoods to reach target voters
  • Able to travel to various parts of Durham County
  • Able to use their own smartphone to connect to canvassing apps
  • Available to work weekday evenings and weekends
  • Prior experience volunteering in politics is helpful but not required
  • Prior experience with MiniVAN is helpful but not required
