Our beautiful, historic English Gothic building is not just our worship home, but a gathering space for our parish family and local community. We are seeking a dependable, self-motivated, and respectful Church Sexton to care for our sacred spaces and ensure our facilities are clean, safe, and ready for ministry.

Job Summary

The Church Sexton is responsible for the general cleanliness, basic maintenance, security, and setup of the church buildings and grounds. This role works under the general supervision of the Rector (Pastor) and the Junior Warden (Property Chair) to support the weekly life of the parish, including Sunday services, special events, and seasonal projects.

3. Simple Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform minor repairs and handy-person tasks (e.g., replacing lightbulbs, tightening loose screws, paint touch-ups).
  • Regularly inspect safety equipment (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, electrical panel) and keep an eye out for issues that require professional contractors.
  • Assist with minor seasonal tasks (e.g., keeping walkways clear of light snow/ice in the winter, sweeping the entranceways).

4. Sunday & Event Setup

  • Prepare the parish hall and meeting rooms for Sunday coffee hour, vestry meetings, and parish events (setting up tables and chairs).
  • Provide logistical support for special services, including funerals, weddings, and holy seasons (Lent, Easter, Christmas).

5. Administration

  • Coordinate inspections for insurance, safety, code compliance, and pest control.
  • Order maintenance supplies and track facility-related expenses.
  • Assist with facilities planning and annual budgeting.
  • Coordinate parish workdays and serve as the primary contact for facilities contractors.

  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb a ladder safely, and perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, sweeping).
