Job description

Emergency Department Technician
PRN | Weekday Evening Shift
  • Monday-Friday
  • 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
  • No regularly scheduled weekend shifts
  • Holiday coverage may be required based on department needs
  • Position may provide support to the Medical-Surgical floor as needed

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
  • Assist with patient intake, vital signs, and initial assessments
  • Prepare patients for exams, procedures, or diagnostic tests
  • Monitor patient conditions and report changes to nursing staff
  • Perform basic clinical procedures such as wound care, splinting, or EKGs, as trained
  • Assist on the hospital floor with patient care, answer call lights, phones, assist patients with basic cares, etc.
  • Specimen collection including urine, stool, and sputum
  • Phlebotomy (after competency completion)
  • Act as a backup for the CNA staff and cover breaks
Department Operations
  • Transport patients to and from the ER, imaging, or other departments
  • Restock supplies and maintain clean, organized treatment areas
  • Assist with equipment setup and maintenance
  • Support triage process by gathering patient information and history
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Follow infection control protocols and standard precautions
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA compliance)
  • Report on unsafe conditions or incidents to nursing or supervisory staff
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other ER staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Communicate patient needs, changes, and concerns promptly
  • Answer phone calls, admit patients via computer
  • Notify Ancillary Staff when needed (Lab, Radiology, Respiratory)
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients and families
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) preferred or as required by facility
Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in emergency, acute care, or patient care settings preferred
  • Previous experience as a nursing assistant, EMT, or clinical technician is advantageous

Pay Range: $18 - $20 per hour
