Job description

Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Mountlake Terrace is seeking an experienced accompanist for our 9am mass Traditional Choir, and someone who is, ideally, familiar with the Catholic Liturgy. The time commitment includes rehearsals on Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 pm, and Sunday Mass 8:00 -10:00am, which includes a pre-Mass rehearsal. We do a variety of different choral music as well as the music with the congregation.
  • Musical Accompaniment: Provide piano or organ accompaniment for choir rehearsals and Mass performances.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the choir director to select music, arrange pieces, and ensure cohesive performances.
  • Sight-Reading: Ability to sight-read music and follow the conductor's tempo, adapting to various musical styles as needed.
  • Support Choir Members: Assist choir members in learning their parts, providing guidance on tempo, phrasing, and style.
  • Rehearsals and Performances: Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances, including special events such as weddings and funerals if required.
  • Music Preparation: Prepare music for rehearsals and performances, including transposing and arranging as necessary.
  • Maintain regular, timely and sustained attendance for each performance and rehearsal
  • For planned absences, provides as much notice as able to the Choir Director.

  • Musical Proficiency: Strong piano and/or organ skills, with the ability to play a variety of musical styles
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with choir members and directors
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address challenges that arise during rehearsals and performances, adapting as needed.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a choir accompanist or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Education: A degree in music or a related field is advantageous but not required.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
