Company Description
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) support the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 24 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources. Within CIS, the Application Development unit provides software application development and support for strategic University Enterprise applications in support of campus businesses processes, academic program support, database administration, systems integration and interfaces with the inclusion of the CUNYfirst project.
Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Application Development, the WebSphere Administrator manages and supports all applications that utilize the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) platform including many applications supporting Admissions, Registration, Student Advisement, Financial Aid and Oracle Identity Management.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manages applications, both developed and purchased on the WebSphere platform, including critical student services applications in Windows and Linux environments.
- Responsible for WebSphere-related installations, upgrades, configurations, deployments, and administration.
- Develops architecture, standards, and procedures for implementation and support of the WebSphere systems and with consideration of their integration within the University's IT infrastructure.
- Manages and supports the environment as existing applications are migrated to different platforms and newer applications are introduced.
- Serves as project lead; communicates objectives and timelines to the team and ensures that project goals are met on time.
- Ensures the quick resolution of complex issues that may affect capacity and performance.
- Serves as an expert resource; provides recommendations to optimize system performance and availability.
- Creates and analyzes relevant reports as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications Include:
- Minimum five (5) years' experience and demonstrated expertise in WebSphere Application Server administration and Windows Server administration.
- Working knowledge of WebLogic Administration desired.
- Working knowledge of Apache Subversion source management tool a plus.
- Experience with Oracle Access Manager (OAM) and Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) a plus.
- Ability to effectively lead diverse teams of technical professionals, and the skill to manage and motivate team members to produce quality deliverables while meeting project deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, reflected in the ability to form successful cooperative partnerships with both internal and external personnel.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and with team members, as well as with varying levels of technical and non-technical personnel, to achieve appropriate solutions.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the flexibility to work successfully with multiple priorities.
- Excellent analytical, communication, writing, and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex technical issues into understandable reports, updates, and proposals for solutions.
- Commitment to the highest level of constituent satisfaction and responsiveness.
