The successful candidate will work in a high-paced and rewarding work environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:

The Web Content Specialist will provide web content development, editorial, content management, quality assurance, accessibility, and training support for Federal websites, intranets, and related digital information resources. The position will write, edit, review, upload, maintain, and publish web content using agency Content Management Systems (CMS); coordinate required reviews and approvals; maintain current and accurate information; and ensure web products comply with Federal accessibility and quality requirements. The role also supports training materials and staff outreach, image preparation, content certification activities, and coordination of web content processes and procedures.

Web Content Development, Editing & Publishing

* Write, edit, revise, proofread, and format web content to ensure information is clear, accurate, concise, current, and appropriate for intended audiences.

* Upload, maintain, update, and publish content to agency websites and intranets using Content Management Systems.

* Review existing web content and recommend improvements to readability, organization, consistency, usability, and presentation.

* Coordinate content through required review and approval processes before publication.

* Maintain quality control of website content, data, documentation, and other digital information.

* Optimize web content for search engine optimization (SEO) while maintaining agency editorial, communications, and accessibility standards.

* Support the development and maintenance of web pages, online documentation, user information, and other digital communications.

* Ensure consistency of terminology, formatting, messaging, and editorial presentation across web content and related digital products.

Section 508 Accessibility & Quality Assurance

* Review web pages and digital content to ensure compliance with Section 508 and other applicable Federal accessibility requirements.

* Develop and review accessible content, including meaningful alternative text for images and other non-text elements.

* Perform quality assurance reviews of web content before and after publication to identify errors, outdated information, accessibility issues, and inconsistencies.

* Coordinate remediation of content that does not meet accessibility, editorial, or agency requirements.

* Verify that posted content remains accurate, current, accessible, and consistent with approved source materials.

* Apply strong attention to detail when reviewing text, links, graphics, page layouts, and associated digital content.

Content Management, Certification & Coordination

* Coordinate agency processes for reviewing and certifying web content as current and accurate, including support for quarterly content certification requirements.

* Track content reviews, updates, approvals, assignments, and outstanding actions through completion.

* Coordinate with program staff, technical subject matter experts, communications personnel, web managers, and other stakeholders to obtain and validate information for publication.

* Maintain documentation supporting web content processes, procedures, reviews, and updates.

* Assist in developing and improving workflows, procedures, templates, and standards governing web content management.

* Support database-related content coordination, editing, sorting, filtering, and quality control when required; this position supports database content rather than software programming.

Training, Documentation & Outreach Support

* Develop, write, edit, and maintain user guides, training materials, presentations, procedures, job aids, and other documentation supporting web and content-management processes.

* Develop and deliver outreach and training sessions to agency staff on web content procedures, CMS use, content standards, or related processes.

* Prepare presentation materials and use presentation applications to support instructor-led or virtual training.

* Communicate processes and technical information clearly to users with varying levels of web and CMS experience.

* Collect feedback from users and stakeholders and recommend improvements to training, documentation, and content-management processes.

Web Graphics & Digital Media Support

* Prepare and optimize images and other graphic assets for online use.

* Use graphic applications to crop, resize, recolor, and otherwise manipulate web images as needed.

* Ensure images are appropriately formatted and optimized for web publication and accompanied by compliant alternative text.

* Coordinate with graphic designers, communications personnel, and other production staff when more complex graphics or multimedia support is required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE REQUIREMENT:

* Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.

* Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in web content management, with at least 3 years of that experience within the last 5 years.

* Demonstrated experience writing, editing, proofreading, and maintaining content for websites, intranets, or other digital platforms.

* Demonstrated experience using Content Management Systems to upload, edit, maintain, and publish content.

* Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements and experience incorporating accessibility into web content.

* Experience developing and editing training materials, user documentation, procedures, presentations, or related instructional content.

* Experience performing content and data quality-control reviews.

* Ability to use graphic applications to crop, resize, recolor, and manipulate web images.

* Strong writing, editing, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.

* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, reviews, and content updates simultaneously.

* Ability to coordinate effectively with program staff, subject matter experts, communications personnel, web managers, and other stakeholders.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable productivity and presentation applications.

* Ability to meet customer site and program requirements.

* U.S. Citizenship is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:

* Experience supporting FHWA, U.S. Department of Transportation, or another Federal agency.

* Experience supporting Federal research, scientific, technical, engineering, or public-information websites.

* Experience with transportation research, particularly highway or surface transportation programs, which FHWA identifies as preferred experience for this position.

* Experience working with Federal Section 508 requirements and accessible digital content.

* Experience with SEO principles and optimization of government web content.

* Experience coordinating periodic or quarterly web content certification and review processes.

* Experience supporting website and intranet content through structured approval workflows.

* Experience developing and delivering training to Federal staff on CMS, web content, or related business processes.

* Experience working with database content, including editing, reviewing, sorting, filtering, and maintaining data through graphical user interfaces.

* Experience coordinating web content processes and developing or improving associated procedures and documentation.

Must be in local commuting distance to the DMV area, telework eligible.
