Ballard is a growing school district in central Iowa, competing in the highly regarded Raccoon River Conference. We pride ourselves on our state-of-the-art facilities, successful athletic programs, and a community that offers unwavering support for our students. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team.
Work Schedule: 2-3 hours per day (Generally between 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) Monday-Friday with various nights and weekends during the season. The term of this position shall run concurrent with the specified sport coached, according to the approved Unified Activity Calendar by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Assist with Training: Help plan and execute training sessions focused on improving individual skills and team tactics.
  • Game Preparation: Assist in scouting opponents, analyzing game footage, and developing game plans and strategies.
  • Player Development: Provide feedback and guidance to players to help them improve their skills and performance.
  • Collaborative Leadership: If applicable, collaborate with additional coaching staff in making decisions during games and practices.
  • Skill Instruction: Teach specific skills and techniques to players, both individually and in group settings.
  • Player Evaluation: Assess player performance during practices and games to provide input to the coaching staff.
  • Team Management: Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, equipment management, and travel arrangements.
  • Player Communication: Maintain open communication with players to address concerns, encourage, and foster a positive team environment.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the team in the community, participating in events and engaging with fans and supporters.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with school, conference, and state rules, regulations, and standards of conduct.

Qualifications:
  • A current Iowa Department of Education Coaching Authorization is required.
  • Experience coaching at the youth, middle school, or high school level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport and its rules, as well as coaching techniques and strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team
  • Up to date required trainings for Ballard (or in the process of being completed)

Working Conditions:
  • The position may require evening and weekend work, as well as travel for away games and competitions.
  • Work environment varies depending on the sport, but may include outdoor fields, indoor arenas, or gymnasiums.
  • Physical requirements may include standing for long periods, running and demonstrating techniques to players.
