What is a Web3 software engineer?

A Web3 Software Engineer is a developer who specializes in building decentralized applications (dApps) using blockchain technologies. They work with smart contracts, distributed ledgers, and protocols like Ethereum to create secure and transparent applications that run without central authority. Web3 engineers often use languages such as Solidity or Rust and are skilled in integrating front-end interfaces with blockchain backends. Their work is crucial for projects in decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and other blockchain-based ecosystems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web3 software engineer?

To thrive as a Web3 Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (especially in JavaScript, Solidity, and smart contract development), a solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals, and experience with decentralized applications (dApps). Familiarity with tools and frameworks like Ethereum, Truffle, Hardhat, and relevant security certifications is typically expected. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating in rapidly evolving, decentralized environments. These skills ensure secure, efficient, and innovative blockchain solutions that meet the demands of the Web3 ecosystem.

What are some common challenges Web3 software engineers face when developing decentralized applications?

Web3 Software Engineers often encounter challenges related to the rapidly evolving ecosystem, such as keeping up with frequent updates to blockchain protocols and development tools. Ensuring security in smart contracts and managing gas fees effectively are also significant concerns. Additionally, integrating decentralized systems with traditional web infrastructure can require creative problem-solving and collaboration with backend and DevOps teams. Adaptability and a proactive approach to learning are key to navigating these challenges successfully.

What is the difference between Web3 Software Engineer vs Blockchain Developer?

  • Ship production-quality code with an emphasis on long-term maintainability, with relevant documentation and test coverage.
  • Break down complex engineering projects into executable tasks and partner with applicable crossโ€‘functional teams.
  • Independently identify stakeholders and align crossโ€‘functional partners toward project completion.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback; action feedback from reviews of your own code promptly.
  • Apply AI coding tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, and optimise engineering workflows.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert within the mobile engineering team and provide consultation on domainโ€‘level projects.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders; share project updates and influence decisionโ€‘making through dataโ€‘driven insights.
  • Participate in interviewing and onboarding of new team members.
What We Look For In You
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree/experience.
  • Proven experience shipping productionโ€‘quality mobile code on iOS and/or Android.
  • Strong proficiency in Swift, Kotlin, or React Native.
  • Experience working in fintech, crypto, or Web3 environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimise workflows and drive measurable impact โ€” e.g. efficiency gains, quality improvements.
  • Ongoing AI skill development โ€” prompt engineering, agent orchestration, staying current with emerging AI technologies.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to nonโ€‘technical audiences.
Nice to Haves
  • Familiarity with DeFi protocols, wallet integrations, or onโ€‘chain data.
  • Experience contributing to open source projects or shared code repositories.
  • Active participation in the developer community (blogs, GitHub, Stack Overflow, etc.).
  • Experience in highly collaborative, fastโ€‘paced environments.
  • Experience adhering to responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation).
Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive total compensation package.
  • L&D programs and Education subsidy for employees' growth and development.
  • Various team building programs and company events.
  • Wellness and meal allowances.
  • Comprehensive healthcare schemes for employees and dependants.
  • More that we love to tell you along the process!
