What is a web testing?

A Web Testing job involves evaluating websites and web applications to ensure they function correctly, are user-friendly, and meet specified requirements. Testers check for bugs, security vulnerabilities, performance issues, and compatibility across various browsers and devices. They use manual and automated testing methods to validate functionality, usability, and responsiveness. Web testers collaborate with developers and stakeholders to identify and resolve defects before deployment.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of someone working in web testing?

Web Testers regularly review software requirements and technical specifications, create comprehensive test cases, and execute both manual and automated test scripts to validate web application functionality. They document and report bugs, work closely with developers to reproduce and resolve issues, and participate in regular Agile team meetings such as standups or sprint reviews. In this role, you’ll also verify cross-browser compatibility, monitor site performance, and contribute to continuous improvements in testing processes. Collaborative communication with designers, developers, and project managers is key to ensuring issues are addressed efficiently and product releases meet quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the web testing position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Web Testing, you should have a solid understanding of web technologies, programming basics, and test methodologies, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Selenium, JIRA, Postman, and automated testing frameworks, along with certifications such as ISTQB, is highly valuable. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication distinguish outstanding professionals in this role. These skills and qualities ensure thorough testing, accurate defect reporting, and strong collaboration with development teams to deliver high-quality web applications.

Can I get paid to test websites?

Web testing is a legitimate job that involves evaluating websites for usability, functionality, and bugs. Many companies hire testers directly or through freelance platforms, and payment can vary based on project scope, experience, and tools used. Some testers also participate in bug bounty programs that pay for discovering security vulnerabilities or issues.

How do you become a web testing?

To become a web tester, you typically need a good understanding of web technologies, testing tools, and scripting languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and automation frameworks. Gaining experience through internships, certifications such as ISTQB, and developing strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills are also important for entering the field.

Job description

Overview of Opportunity

At Two Six Technologies, we build, deploy, and implement innovative products that solve the world's most complex challenges today.

We are seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive manual functional and user-acceptance tests to assess software product quality. However, your work will extend beyond isolated software testing to include evaluating how custom web applications, distributed architectures, and interoperable non-kinetic data streams function as a unified ecosystem. As our testing practices evolve, you will assist in implementing automated testing frameworks to scale these efforts. Additionally, you will contribute to new testing strategies aimed at verifying AI-assisted code development, ensuring the robustness and integrity of our software ecosystem.

You will collaborate closely with program engineering, development, and field operations teams to establish testing processes, evaluate complex features, and isolate critical defects. You will play a vital role in ensuring mission readiness, validating intricate data flows across multiple disparate networks, and aligning the entire test life cycle directly with strategic operational timelines.

Location: This role is expected to be on-site at TST's Arlington headquarters 4-5 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform software product testing via website interactions and tooling to validate intended functionality or identify and triage issues.
  • Create, maintain, and/or improve  functional, end-to-end, regression, and performance tests in manual test environments.
  • Evaluate how custom web applications, distributed architectures, and interoperable data streams function together as a unified ecosystem.
  • Assist in the progressive rollout and implementation of automated testing frameworks to scale existing manual efforts.
  • Contribute to the design of new testing strategies aimed at verifying the quality, robustness, and integrity of AI-assisted code development.
  • Detect, document, and track software defect reports and feature requests.
  • Understand, reproduce, and troubleshoot product defects, collaborating closely with developers to determine the best resolution.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Testing-Team processes and solutions in alignment with program and operational timelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software testing experience, with exposure to web testing frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, etc. .
  • 3+ years of experience with backend API testing, integration testing, and functional testing.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, distributed systems, and cross-network data flows.
  • Experience with UNIX / LINUX-based operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience writing or manipulating SQL (or SQL-like) queries to interact with relational/non-relational databases.
  • Familiarity with, or a strong interest in, modern development workflows using AI-assisted coding tools and methods for verifying code integrity.
  • Experience testing complex, data-heavy systems or interoperable data streams.
  • Solid grasp of technical writing and documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or comparable professional experience.

Nice If You Have:

  • Military cyber experience, networking experience, or understanding of common military, cyber, and networking vernacular.
  • Familiarity with AI development and testing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with virtualization or cloud technologies such as Docker, vSphere, Ansible, or AWS.
  • Understanding of the Agile Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience refining low-level testing or configuration scripts using Bash, Python, or Javascript.
  • Experience with creating automated tests for geospatial libraries such as OpenLayers and CesiumJS.

Clearance Qualifications:

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
