Job description

About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced design leader to join our Digital Studio at Rivian as a Senior Manager, Web Product Design. This role is responsible for leading the team behind customer-facing experiences on Rivian's website, with a core focus on product stories, commerce flows, and overall UX strategy.
In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of product designers bringing our vehicles and services to life on a global platform. You'll oversee the web ecosystem and drive the strategy for the end-to-end user experience, from brand discovery through product comprehension to multi-step purchase processes. You will guide work across projects focused both on narrative storytelling as well as transactional checkout and purchase experiences, while aligning design strategy with overarching business goals. Scope includes Rivian.com and the Rivian Gear Shop.
This is a hybrid role at our design offices in Irvine.
Responsibilities
  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of 4-6 web product designers, fostering design excellence and professional growth.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership to define user problems, business opportunities, and strategic priorities for Rivian's web platform.
  • Drive feature roadmaps, planning, and resource allocation in collaboration with cross-functional partners to set focus for upcoming quarters.
  • Collaborate with design leaders across Rivian including commercial, design, service, enterprise, and brand teams to ensure ecosystem consistency.
  • Oversee multiple workstreams and projects from initiation through release, ensuring high-quality execution and timely delivery.
  • Frame design challenges through strategic briefs, setting clear scope and vision for the team.
  • Champion user research, contextual inquiry, A/B testing, and analytics to inform design decisions and optimize performance.
  • Guide team iteration throughout the design process, from strategic concepts to final polished experiences.
  • Present design vision, strategy, and work to business stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Partner with the Design Systems team to scale, refine, and evolve enterprise design patterns across our digital ecosystem.
  • Establish design operations and work closely with engineering leadership to streamline handoffs and build processes across teams.

Qualifications
Please include a link to your portfolio (with credentials). Applications without portfolios and log-in credentials will not be reviewed.
  • 8-10+ years working in digital product design with expertise across complex web platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing and leading product design teams.
  • Deep expertise in e-commerce, checkout flows, and direct-to-consumer purchase experiences across both visual and experience design.
  • A compelling portfolio demonstrating exceptional art direction, design strategy, team leadership, commerce frameworks, and measurable business impact.
  • Experience localizing direct-to-consumer purchase experiences across domestic and global geographies.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to influence stakeholders and present to leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of modern design tooling and systems with a particular focus on agentic and direct-to-code workflows
  • Thorough understanding of user research methodologies, A/B testing, and web UX/UI principles.
  • Domain experience in digital commerce and complex digital ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple team workstreams, adapt to shifting priorities, and scale processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading cross-functional design efforts within agile frameworks.
