Job Summary:

The Nursing Faculty is a member of the University who has been appointed to one of four academic ranks: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The faculty member will contribute to the academic, professional, and personal formation of nursing students through a combination of teaching, scholarship, and service. This role includes delivering high-quality instruction in classroom, online, and clinical settings; developing curriculum; evaluating student learning; and mentoring students. The faculty member collaborates with colleagues to design and implement innovative teaching strategies and assessments, including flipped classrooms, case studies, and competency-based evaluation. Clinical and laboratory oversight ensures students are well-prepared to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in diverse healthcare settings. Additionally, faculty advise students on academic planning, study skills, and testing strategies to support their academic success and holistic development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching: Classroom, online, synchronous platforms

  • Curriculum planning and evaluation

  • Evaluation of student learning (grading, coaching, mentoring, evaluating)

  • Course planning with teaching team to include teaching strategies (lecture, flipped classroom, case studies), tests, competencies

  • Laboratory and clinical planning, supervision, evaluation, and oversight

  • Student academic advising, to include study skills, testing strategies, course planning

  • Clinical Supervision, including student and preceptor meetings, evaluation of assignments, community team building

Scholarship

  • Boyer's model of scholarship: Teaching, Discovery, Integration, Application

  • Development and dissemination of nursing knowledge (posters, presentations, publication)

  • Ongoing personal and professional education and development

Service to institution, profession, community

  • Clinical/Professional practice

  • Service learning activities with students

  • Participation in school, college, and university committees and task forces

  • Participation in recruitment and retention activities at the school, college, and university level

  • Service to the profession at local, state, or national level


Working Conditions:
Ranked faculty are hired on variable FTE Faculty Contract. Holiday and leave vary according to FTE. All leave (unpaid, professional, and service) is planned with the School in order to ensure effective year-round operation of the School's nursing education programs. Workplace settings include classroom, office, skills and simulation laboratories, clinical settings, and community settings, including indoor and outdoor areas.


Qualifications:


Education

  • A graduate degree in Nursing required.

  • Doctoral degree in nursing preferred.

Licenses or Certifications

  • An active license in good standing to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado. Effective July 1, 2007, an active license in good standing includes registered nurses practicing pursuant to the terms and condition of the nurse licensure compact and the requirements set for in the state of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Division of Registration, Board of Nursing, Chapter II Rules and Regulations for Approval of Nursing Education Programs.

  • Nurse Practitioners must be board certified in the appropriate specialty and hold a Colorado APRN license. Nurse Practitioners engaged in faculty practice must have a Colorado APRN license and prescriptive authority for the designated population foci


Experience

  • A minimum of two years of full-time, or equivalent, professional nursing clinical experience

  • Documented knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation

Special knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Knowledge of leadership and team building

  • Use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Web-browser, personal information management software, advising, and information management software

  • Work to deadline

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated organizational skills

  • Project planning and priority setting capabilities

Pay Rate:

Salary dependent on faculty rank. Instructor $56,500-$75,300, Assistant Professor $63,300-$84,400, Associate Professor $66,300-$90,000 / annually, commensurate with qualifications.
