Part-Time Architecture Faculty
UMA transforms the lives of students of every age and background across the State of Maine
and beyond through access to high quality distance and on-site education, excellence in student

UMA is the third largest public university in Maine. In addition to its main campus in the state's
capital, UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA
Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and
distance learning, UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages
who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.
Statement of the job:
The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applications for part-time faculty in the
Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) Program to teach ARC 221: Concepts of Structures starting in
the fall 2026 semester, with the possibility to teach other classes. The successful candidate will
be committed to excellence in teaching and to developing an innovative curriculum. This
position would teach classes that are in-person. The primary location would be the Augusta

The course, ARC 221: Concepts in Structures, offers an introduction to the study, analysis, and
mathematical solutions to architectural structures and the forces acting upon them. Topics
covered include for vectors, moment and shear calculations, and the general stresses and
strains on structure through an exploration of mechanical design principles and the
mathematics related to them. Students will become aware of the deforming forces of tension,
compression, shear, flexure, and torsion and their potential physical effects on building
systems.

Required Qualifications:
A master's degree OR a professionally accredited degree, appropriate licensure, and
professional experience in related fields
Professional experience with structural systems and their integration into architectural
projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
Or Registered Architect with experience in structural design.
A capacity and interest to teach Structural Systems.
Salary: The salary range is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
