The field offers opportunities in various industries, and continuous learning is essential to stay current with evolving technologies and tools.

What are some common challenges web developers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Web developers often collaborate with designers, product managers, and backend engineers, which can present challenges in aligning priorities and communication styles. Job description

Solutions Architect -- Web

Location: Midvale, UT, 84047

What You'll Do

In this role, you will be the strategic and technical bridge between ZAGG's business goals and our Shopify platform execution. You will ensure every solution is purpose-built to drive measurable outcomes, aligned to commercial strategy, and delivered using Shopify best practices that guarantee performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

Business Alignment amp; Strategy
  • Lead structured discovery sessions with business owners, product managers, and commercial leads to translate KPIs and OKRs — conversion rate, AOV, customer LTV, fulfilment efficiency — into platform decisions.
  • Produce Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) and Solution Design Documents (SDDs) that map every technical decision back to a measurable business outcome.
  • Present solution blueprints, trade-off analyses, and implementation roadmaps to Digital stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
  • Facilitate prioritisation workshops (MoSCoW, RICE) to align stakeholders on scope, sequencing, and ROI — and act as the trusted advisor who challenges scope creep in favour of long-term platform health.
  • Identify and articulate the commercial impact of technical debt and architectural trade-offs in terms non-technical stakeholders understand.
  • Contribute to pre-sales RFPs and proposals, with a sharp focus on articulating business value over feature lists.
Shopify Best Practices amp; Platform Governance
  • Own and enforce implementation standards across all Shopify engagements: Online Store 2.0 architecture (Sections Everywhere, JSON templates, app blocks — no legacy hardcoded Liquid patterns).
  • Define and uphold performance budgets: Lighthouse scores ≥ 90, LCP lt; 2.5s, CLS lt; 0.1 — gating deployments against regressions.
  • Establish Shopify Plus governance: Checkout Extensibility standards, Shopify Functions usage policies, Flow automation naming conventions, and Metafield/Metaobject architecture.
  • Run a formal App Governance framework evaluating every app addition for data ownership, performance impact, redundancy risk, and vendor lock-in.
  • Design integrations using event-driven, webhook-based patterns with idempotent processing, retry logic, and dead-letter queues — never synchronous polling.
  • Mandate API versioning discipline: stay within two major Shopify API versions, maintain a deprecation calendar, and never ship on a deprecated API version.
Architecture amp; Integration
  • Define end-to-end solution architectures for Shopify Plus implementations including headless storefronts (Hydrogen/Oxygen), multi-region setups, and B2B commerce.
  • Architect and oversee integrations connecting Shopify with ERP, OMS, PIM, CRM, 3PL, and marketing platforms using scalable, maintainable patterns.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy trade-offs for third-party apps, custom apps, and platform extensions based on business need and total cost of ownership.
Technical Leadership amp; Delivery
  • Mentor engineers, conduct architecture reviews, and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and standards adoption.
  • Define and track success metrics for every implementation — ensuring post-launch measurement is in place from day one.
  • Own the Architecture Decision Log (ADR), produce high-quality documentation, and ensure business rationale is captured alongside every significant technical choice.
What You'll Need to be SuccessfulRequired Qualifications
  • 6+ years in solution architecture, technical consulting, or senior engineering with a commerce focus.
  • 3+ years hands-on with Shopify Plus — owning architecture decisions end to end in an agency, SI, or in-house enterprise setting.
  • Demonstrable track record of translating business strategy into Shopify implementations with documented commercial outcomes (conversion uplift, revenue impact, time-to-market improvements).
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Shopify Plus platform: Admin API, Storefront API, Checkout Extensions, Shopify Functions, Flow, Markets, B2B, and Metafields.
  • Proficient in Liquid, Online Store 2.0 architecture, and theme performance optimisation.
  • Solid foundation in web architecture: REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven integration patterns, CDN strategy, and cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP / Azure).
  • Able to produce high-quality solution documentation — BRDs, SDDs, ADRs, and executive-level presentations — and communicate technical trade-offs to VP/C-level audiences.
  • Strong commercial acumen: understands P amp;L impact of technical decisions and frames recommendations accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Shopify Partner or Shopify Plus Partner agency background with multiple enterprise merchant deployments.
  • Experience with headless/composable commerce patterns: Hydrogen/Remix, Next.js storefronts, and MACH architecture principles.
  • Background in digital analytics: GA4, server-side tagging, Segment CDP, and attribution modelling.
  • Experience with D2C and B2B commerce models on Shopify, including wholesale, net-term pricing, and company accounts.
  • Exposure to internationalisation and cross-border commerce: Shopify Markets, multi-currency, localisation, and tax compliance.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or equivalent.
