With an enrollment of over 3,100 students, GSC offers an intimate academic setting with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. In this setting, students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.
Job Summary
The Web and Graphic Designer manages and maintains Gordon State College's web presence while providing graphic design support for institutional marketing and communications initiatives. This position ensures digital content is accessible, user-friendly, visually consistent, and compliant with institutional, ADA/WCAG, and University System of Georgia standards. The position serves as the College's primary web design and content implementation specialist while also creating print and digital marketing materials that support enrollment, retention, advancement, and institutional priorities. Working closely with the Marketing Manager, the role supports the College's mission through effective web management, visual communication, and brand stewardship.
Responsibilities
Website Design, Development, and Management (30%)
  • Design, develop, update, and maintain the institutional website to ensure accuracy, usability, and engagement.
  • Implement page layouts, navigation structures, and front-end components that support a consistent user-friendly experience.
  • Create and maintain web assets in alignment with institutional branding standards.

Graphic Design and Creative Services (30%)
  • Design print and digital marketing materials supporting enrollment, retention, advancement, and institutional initiatives.
  • Create brochures, flyers, advertisements, signage, presentations, event materials, and other visual communications.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
  • Manage multiple design requests while maintaining quality, accuracy, and established timelines.
  • Ensure all creative materials align with institutional branding standards.

Content Management and Stakeholder Collaboration (15%)
  • Coordinate website updates with campus stakeholders and designated content owners.
  • Manage multiple content requests and prioritize updates to ensure timely delivery.
  • Provide guidance and limited training on content standards, accessibility, and CMS usage.

Web Accessibility and Compliance (10%)
  • Ensure all web content and digital assets comply with ADA and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Review templates, pages, and content for accessibility compliance and implement improvements.
  • Promote inclusive digital practices.

Systems, CMS, and Technical Collaboration (5%)
  • Serve as liaison with Information Technology and University System offices regarding CMS-related updates and issues.
  • Assist in troubleshooting web-related technical concerns.

Web Governance, Standards, and Leadership (5%)
  • Serve as a campus resource for web design standards, structure, and best practices.
  • Ensure web activities align with institutional policies, branding guidelines, and procedures.

Digital Asset Management and Documentation (5%)
  • Maintain digital asset libraries, templates, and web resources.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to web standards and accessibility requirements.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Digital Media, Visual Communications, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant professional experience; or
Associate's degree in a related field, plus four (4) years of relevant professional experience.
Experience managing websites using a Content Management System (CMS).
Working knowledge of web accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG).
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in higher education or a large organizational environment.
Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and front-end design concepts.
Experience training or supporting content contributors.
Advanced experience with web accessibility testing and remediation.
Familiarity with web analytics and performance monitoring tools.
Experience developing standards, governance documentation, or CMS guidance.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of web design principles, including responsive design, usability, and user experience (UX) best practices.
Working knowledge of ADA and WCAG accessibility standards and the ability to apply accessible design practices to web and digital content.
Knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) and front-end web implementation, including page layouts, navigation structures, and basic HTML/CSS concepts.
Knowledge of graphic and visual design principles such as layout, typography, color theory, composition, and visual hierarchy.
Knowledge of branding standards and marketing principles to ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across digital platforms.
Proficiency with industry-standard design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite/InDesign and web-based tools such as Canva or comparable platforms.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate digital content.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and institutional stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, prioritize work effectively, and exercise independent professional judgment within established guidelines.
