What is a web developer internship?

A Web Developer Internship is a temporary position designed for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in building and maintaining websites and web applications. Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced developers and may assist with coding, testing, debugging, and designing web pages. This role provides valuable hands-on exposure to industry tools, programming languages, and best practices while helping interns develop their technical and teamwork skills. Successful completion of a web developer internship can enhance a candidate's resume and increase their chances of securing a full-time web development role.

What is a web developer internship?

In a web developer internship, you work with professional developers, designers, and project managers to support the development of a website and learn the skills of the trade. As an intern, you may assist with coding under the direction of a professional computer programmer, test existing code, format graphics for web use, or communicate with clients about the project. Your responsibilities may also involve testing new technology for potential use in the web development project. Some interns perform additional clerical duties as needed.

What are the typical projects and tasks assigned to a web developer intern, and how do they contribute to the overall team?

Web developer interns often work on a variety of tasks such as assisting with website updates, debugging code, creating new web pages, and implementing design changes under the guidance of senior developers. These projects allow interns to gain hands-on experience with web technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and sometimes frameworks like React or Angular. Interns usually collaborate closely with designers, back-end developers, and project managers, contributing to real-world projects that impact the organization's digital presence. This collaborative environment helps interns develop both technical skills and an understanding of professional workflows, setting a strong foundation for future career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web developer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Developer Intern, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a foundational grasp of web development principles, often supported by coursework or self-taught projects. Familiarity with version control systems like Git and exposure to frameworks such as React or Angular are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, willingness to learn, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate and adapt in team environments. These skills are crucial for contributing to real-world projects, learning quickly, and building a successful foundation for a web development career.

Can I be a web developer internship with no experience?

Web developer internships often do not require prior professional experience and are designed for beginners. Candidates typically need basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and demonstrating a portfolio or personal projects can improve chances of acceptance.

How to get a web developer internship?

To secure a web developer internship, build a portfolio showcasing your projects, learn relevant skills such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks, and apply to internships through company websites, job boards, or university career centers. Having a basic understanding of version control tools like Git and a willingness to learn are also beneficial.

Job description

About the Role

We're building the next generation of email marketing tools at Validity. AI is central to how we build – we develop with agents daily – and to what we build, shipping AI-powered features that help our customers succeed.

We're looking for a Full Stack AI Software Engineer I with exceptional fundamentals, sharp instincts, and the drive to build production software from day one.

This is a hybrid office-based position that requires in-person presence in the team's Boston, MA (Financial District) office location on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays of each week. This role is not eligible for remote work or relocation.

Team Dynamic

We move fast, communicate directly, and debate ideas openly. The best idea wins regardless of who it comes from. We bias toward action – ship, learn, iterate.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build and ship full-stack features
  • Work with agentic AI systems – both using AI tools in your workflow and building AI-powered features
  • Work across multiple projects simultaneously, using agents to maintain velocity across concurrent workstreams
  • Perform rigorous code review – especially of AI-generated code – ensuring production-grade quality, security, and systems design
  • Learn rapidly in a fast-paced environment alongside senior engineers
  • Work closely with product managers, shipping, learning, and iterating
Required Experience, Skills, and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science from a top 30 CS program
  • 4.0 GPA
  • At least one software engineering internship at a technology company, or a portfolio of demonstrable projects showing engineering depth
  • Proficiency in React, TypeScript, and SQL
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools effectively – you already build with agents
  • Strong code review instincts – you read code critically and catch issues others miss
  • Excellent fundamentals in systems design and data structures
  • Ability to work a hybrid office-based position (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) in the team's Boston, MA (Financial District) office.
Who You Are
  • A doer – hands‑on with code and experiments daily
  • A quality gate – you care about getting it right, and you know AI-generated code needs sharp review
  • Fast and intelligent – you learn fast, make smart decisions quickly, and iterate
  • An AI‑native builder – agentic tools are part of how you work, not an afterthought
  • Collaborative – you thrive on code review and learning from others
  • Hard‑working and motivated – you put in the effort and take pride in what you ship
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education
  • Contributions to open‑source projects
  • Experience building and deploying web applications
  • Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks or LLM APIs
  • Personal projects that demonstrate initiative and technical depth

Base salary range $100,000 - $120,000, plus benefits, bonus opportunities and stock options. Final salary may vary depending on skills, location, and/or experience.
