To thrive as a Web Developer Contractor, you need strong proficiency in web languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks, often backed by a degree in computer science or demonstrated experience. Familiarity with code versioning tools like Git, content management systems (CMS), and deployment platforms is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills help you manage client expectations and deliver projects effectively. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality, maintainable web solutions while meeting client deadlines and adapting to varied project requirements.

How do Web Developer Contractors typically manage communication and collaboration with clients and remote teams?

Web Developer Contractors often work with clients and team members who may be distributed across different locations. To ensure successful project outcomes, they rely heavily on digital collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, or Jira for task management and communication. Regular video calls and status updates are common practices to keep everyone aligned and address any blockers promptly. Clear documentation and version control using platforms like GitHub are also essential to maintain transparency and streamline collaboration. Proactive communication and setting expectations early help foster strong working relationships and minimize misunderstandings.

What are web developer contractors?

Web developer contractors are professionals who are hired on a temporary or project basis to design, build, or maintain websites and web applications. Job description

Description:

We are looking for a strategic, hands-on Website Manager to own the performance, structure, and user experience of NCCER.org. You will be responsible for ensuring our website is not only functional and technically sound, but also engaging, accessible, and aligned with our brand and workforce development goals.

This role bridges marketing strategy and technical execution—ideal for someone who’s passionate about data, UX, SEO, and web technology, and who wants to help shape the future of construction education through a powerful digital presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Website Strategy & Management: Own the day-to-day operations, content updates, and long-term roadmap for NCCER.org, built on WordPress or other CMS.
  • Lead Generation & Conversion Optimization: Improve how we attract, inform, and convert key audiences—such as contractors, educators, and veterans—through landing pages, A/B testing, and targeted user experiences.
  • Analytics & Tagging Infrastructure: Maintain and optimize Google Tag Manager (including custom data layer) and GA4 setup to ensure reliable tracking and measurement of user behavior and marketing performance.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Implement technical and on-page SEO strategies to boost visibility and organic traffic from key search terms related to construction training, careers, and certifications.
  • UX & Web Design Collaboration: Use insights from Hotjar, Figma mockups, and feedback from stakeholders to continuously improve the user journey across devices and page types.
  • System Integration: Manage website integrations with our HubSpot CRM and email systems, ensuring data flows properly and supports marketing automation and engagement campaigns.
  • User Experience & Accessibility: Ensure the website is accessible, mobile-friendly, and aligned with ADA and WCAG compliance standards to serve our diverse user base, including high school students, jobseekers, military veterans, and industry professionals.
  • Performance & Technical Monitoring: Regularly assess and improve site speed, functionality, uptime, and usability in collaboration with external web developers or IT teams as needed.
  • Content Governance: Work with internal teams to manage updates, publish new content, and enforce brand and messaging consistency across the site.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field.
  • 5+ years managing websites in a marketing or digital role, ideally in nonprofit, education, workforce development, or construction-related industries.
  • Ability to work in-person on a daily basis from NCCER's headquarters office in Alachua, FL.
  • Proficient in HubSpot, WordPress, HTML/CSS, and website optimization best practices.
  • Strong command of Google Tag Manager, data layer implementation, and GA4 event tracking.
  • Solid understanding of SEO (technical, content, and structural).
  • Experience with HubSpot or similar marketing automation and CRM tools.
  • Familiar with tools like Hotjar, Figma, and A/B testing platforms (e.g., VWO, Google Optimize).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate user behavior into site improvements.
  • Experience managing third-party developers, designers, or web agencies.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and an understanding of how digital tools support education, training, and workforce development.
  • Experience with eCommerce.
  • Knowledge of website performance monitoring tools preferred.

No one shall be denied employment or opportunity based on race or color, sex, age, national origin, religion, physical or mental disability, veteran’s status, marital status, gender identity or sexual orientation.
