It involves selecting color schemes, fonts, images, and the arrangement of elements to ensure a site is visually appealing and easy to navigate. Web designers also focus on usability, accessibility, and responsive design so that websites look and function well on all devices. Their work often bridges creativity and technical skills, working closely with developers and clients to bring digital ideas to life.

How does a web designer typically collaborate with developers and other team members during a project?

Web designers frequently work closely with developers, project managers, and content creators to ensure that website designs are both visually appealing and technically feasible. Collaboration often involves participating in regular team meetings, sharing design prototypes, and providing detailed specifications for developers. Designers are also expected to adapt their designs based on feedback from stakeholders and technical constraints, making strong communication skills essential. This teamwork ensures a smooth workflow from concept to live website, resulting in a user-friendly and functional final product.

Job description

Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced digital designer to own the creative behind our in-house brands. This is a hands-on, high-volume role with three parts: designing the paid social and display advertising that drives our lead flow, running our organic social presence end to end, and overseeing the visual design and layout of our websites and landing pages. This role requires an eye for branding, visual story-telling, and the ability to build and extend a brand identity rather than only work inside one. You will be expected to design ads for social media platforms aimed at hitting performance metrics (e.g. cost per lead, cost per acquisition and cost per message).

This is the sole design role on the team, so you will not be working from a queue handed down by a creative director. You will take a performance goal or a campaign brief, decide what the creative should be, build it, ship it, and use the results to decide what to build next. The people who do well here are comfortable being the only designer in the room, ask for the context they need, and close their own loops.

Please note, this is a full-time in-office position only. Please no remote applicants. Please include a link to your creative portfolio as part of your application.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Create and iterate ad creative for digital advertising campaigns on, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram and Google, aimed at hitting performance targets

  • Produce creative in volume and in variations - multiple concepts, formats and aspect ratios per campaign - to support ongoing testing

  • Review ad performance data with the marketing and analytics team and translate it into the next round of creative

  • Adapt static concepts into short-form motion, video and animated ads where the channel calls for it

  • Plan, build, schedule and publish organic content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other active channels

  • Write on-brand copy for posts, captions and ad variants

  • Monitor and respond to comments, reviews, DMs and other inbound social engagement, escalating customer service and compliance questions to the right person

  • Maintain a content calendar visible to the rest of the team and report on organic performance

  • Oversee visual design and layout for brand websites and landing pages, working with our front-end developer on implementation

  • Maintain and extend brand standards across ads, web, social, email and internal materials

  • Follow brand and advertising-claims guidelines closely - our creative is subject to advertising and telecom compliance review

  • Set your own priorities against marketing goals and communicate progress and workload with Team Leads

  • Maintain file organization in Google Drive and within working files

  • Adhere to department file naming conventions

  • Perform other duties as business needs dictate

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3+ years designing digital advertising creative, in-house or agency

  • Demonstrated experience designing paid social ads against performance metrics, not only brand work

  • 1+ year(s) professional hands-on Figma experience is essential. Figma is our primary design tool across ads, email, slide decks, and web.

  • Competence across Adobe Creative Suite and Google Business Suite is essential

  • Hands-on experience running business social accounts, including publishing and community management (Meta Business Suite or equivalent)

  • Any skills in the following are desirable although not essential: AfterEffects, Motion Design/Animation, video editing, wordsmithing/copy writing, Cinema 4D, ClickUp and WIX

  • Understanding of website layout and basic UI/UX principles

  • Demonstrated competence in layout & typography

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to learn new skills using online tutorials

  • Understanding of social media marketing platforms and strategy

  • Understanding of branding principles

  • Time management & task prioritization

  • Self-starter who can take a goal and return finished work without step-by-step direction

  • Resourceful - finds the answer, the asset or the tutorial rather than waiting to be unblocked

  • Comfortable being the sole designer and the final creative decision-maker on most work

  • Able to switch between fast turnaround requests and longer brand projects without losing either

  • Adaptive, collaborative, and innovative mindset, including openness to feedback from performance data

  • Desire and ability to do focused work in an open-architecture office environment

What you get for being part of our ZamFam:

  • Medical, dental and vision healthcare plans

  • Front-loaded paid time off
