SUMMARY

This position is primarily responsible for building modern, product-focused, user-centric web experiences, requiring deep expertise in React and Next.js. The Sr Software Engineer, Frontend IC drives the design, development, and deployment of fast, scalable, and accessible applications, ensuring high performance and excellent user experience across AmaWaterways' consumer and partner digital products. This role involves duties related to building software applications and the technical architecture of web sites and web-based software products. Specific team assignments will be determined based on portfolio needs at time of hire.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of responsive, accessible, and high-performance user interfaces using React.js and Next.js.
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable frontend components and libraries following modern development best practices.
  • Implement advanced Next.js capabilities, including Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), and API routes to optimize performance, scalability, and SEO.
  • Take ownership of the configuration, development, and maintenance of web applications that are critical to the organization's mission and core business operations.
  • Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, product managers, and frontend teams to translate wireframes, visual designs, and business requirements into functional, high-quality code.
  • Develop web applications that integrate with multiple frontend systems and external data sources through REST and GraphQL APIs and other web services.
  • Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and performance, with an emphasis on Core Web Vitals and overall user experience.
  • Perform analysis and prepare technical design documentation for new features and system improvements.
  • Build sophisticated user interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, and related frameworks.
  • Perform unit, integration, and regression testing to ensure code quality and system stability.
  • Develop and maintain Builder.io-powered pages, templates, and components in alignment with design and brand requirements, and integrate Builder.io content with Next.js applications.
  • Collaborate with designers and content editors to configure Builder.io models, sections, and reusable blocks, and optimize implementations for performance, accessibility, and SEO.
  • Conduct and support user acceptance testing (UAT), including documenting findings and verifying resolutions.
  • Monitor website performance, logs, and analytics to ensure reliability, uptime, and optimal user experience.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and escalation for production issues and incidents.
  • Mentor junior developers by providing guidance on coding standards, architectural patterns, and frontend best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging industry trends, technologies, security standards, development tools, and evolving best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws:
    • Providing day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and technical direction to the junior developer(s).
    • Assisting with interviewing and evaluating candidates for frontend roles when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or five or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required: Contact Management Systems; Development Software; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office Suite; Project Management Software, Database Software, Design Software, Internet Software, Spreadsheet Software, Word Processing Software, Electronic Mail Software, Presentation Software, Reservation Software, Phone Software.
  • Other skills required:
    • Five or more years of professional experience developing web applications using React.js, Next.js, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
    • Expert-level proficiency in React.js, Next.js, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+), with comprehensive understanding of component-driven development and modern UI patterns.
    • Strong experience with Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), ISR, and Next.js routing and data-fetching strategies.
    • Solid production-level experience with TypeScript, including advanced typing, generics, and type-safe API integration.
    • Expertise in Builder.io, including building custom components, configuring models, defining reusable blocks, integrating Builder content into Next.js, and optimizing CMS-driven pages.
    • Hands-on experience integrating RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints, including client-side caching, error handling, and secure data flows.
    • Proficiency in responsive UI design, semantic HTML, and modern styling frameworks such as Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules, styled components, or Emotion.
    • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, Core Web Vitals, frontend performance optimization, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
    • Experience with frontend testing frameworks and methodologies, including Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
    • Skilled using Git and GitHub for version control, including branching strategies, code reviews, and pull-request workflows.
    • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment platforms such as Vercel, Netlify, AWS, or Azure.
    • Familiarity with headless CMS platforms (Builder.io, Contentful, Sanity) and experience integrating CMS-driven content into React/Next.js applications.
    • Experience with performance profiling tools such as Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools, Web Vitals, and bundle analysis tools.
    • Understanding of web security best practices, including common frontend vulnerabilities (XSS, CSRF, CORS) and secure coding standards.
    • Ability to collaborate in Agile/Scrum environments and contribute to iterative delivery, sprint planning, and code quality improvements.
