JOB TITLE: CLOUD ENGINEER WITH STRONG AWS (WAF)

WORK LOCATION & REPORTING ADDRESS: ATLANTA, GA 30308 (HYBRID)
CONTRACT DURATION: 12 MONTHS
VISA REQUIREMENT: VISA-INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES ONLY GC AND USC

Role Summary

The client is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer with strong AWS WAF expertise to design, implement, and manage web application security controls. The role is hands-on and focused on protecting AWS-hosted applications from security threats.

Note: A traditional infrastructure background (servers, networking, data center operations) is not mandatory.

Candidates with strong AWS WAF, application security, and automation experience are acceptable.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven hands-on experience with AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF)         
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation    
  • Strong understanding of web application security principles and best practices            
  • Familiarity with AWS services and cloud architecture               
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines       
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage AWS WAF to protect web applications from security threats
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for WAF deployment and ongoing management     
  • Collaborate with security teams to integrate AWS WAF with other AWS security tools and services     
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to web application security incidents
  • Create and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates for AWS WAF and related services (nice to have, not mandatory)
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits of web applications               
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for WAF-related issues            
  • Stay current with emerging security threats, trends, and technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS security services such as AWS Shield and AWS IAM       
  • Exposure to IaC tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible)            
  • Knowledge of network security, firewalls, and IDS/IPS solutions         
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Security – Specialty (preferred but not mandatory)

Internal Notes / Clarifications

  • Hybrid is preferred; remote candidates are acceptable if quality expectations are met              
  • Role is WAF and application-security focused, not infrastructure-heavy          
  • Strong automation mindset and security expertise are more important than infra background
