Web Analytics Intern information

What does a web analytics intern do?

A Web Analytics Intern assists organizations in tracking, analyzing, and interpreting website data to help improve online performance. They typically use tools like Google Analytics to monitor website traffic, user behavior, and digital marketing campaigns. Interns may also generate reports, identify trends, and provide insights that support decision-making for website optimization. This role helps interns develop valuable analytical and technical skills in the digital marketing field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web analytics intern?

To thrive as a Web Analytics Intern, you need a solid understanding of digital marketing concepts, data analysis, and basic statistics, often supported by coursework or a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Excel or other data visualization platforms is commonly required. Attention to detail, curiosity, and strong communication skills help interns interpret data and clearly present actionable insights. These skills are essential for accurately measuring web performance and supporting data-driven decision making in digital marketing teams.

What are some common challenges faced by web analytics interns and how can they overcome them?

Web Analytics Interns often encounter challenges such as navigating complex analytics platforms, ensuring data accuracy, and translating raw data into actionable insights. Overcoming these hurdles involves proactively seeking mentorship from experienced analysts, utilizing online tutorials for tools like Google Analytics, and practicing clear communication when presenting findings. Interns who ask questions, participate in team meetings, and engage with cross-functional teams will quickly build confidence and skills in this dynamic environment.

As a Data Engineering & Analytics Intern, you will join our Digital Sector on the Global Solutions Management - Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at Scott AFB, IL. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with large-scale data visualization, automation, and software development in direct support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
Your Opportunity:
Are you passionate about turning massive datasets into actionable intelligence? As our team helps lead DISA's transition to next-generation platforms, you will be embedded directly with our Operational Engineering and Innovations teams. What You'll Do (Potential Projects & Learning Opportunities):
  • Assist in the creation of Kibana visualizations and dashboards to provide critical information to network operators and leadership.
  • Gain exposure to enterprise data pipelines by assisting with the deployment, configuration, and testing of Kafka and Elastic clusters.
  • Collaborate with an Agile team, participate in daily scrums, and demonstrate working software.
  • Develop skills in troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure and system-level issues.
  • Have the opportunity to design, develop, and test software written in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.

What You'll Bring (Required):
  • Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Technical Foundation: A foundational understanding of software development with Python, Java, or SQL, and a working knowledge of web technologies like HTML and JavaScript.
  • Version Control: Basic familiarity with distributed version control software, such as Git.
  • Analytical Mindset: A strong desire to learn, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Location: This internship is based on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois. All work must be performed on site - no teleworking opportunities. Candidates must be in the St. Louis Metro area and have their own transportation.

What We Want (Desired):
  • Certifications: Obtaining a CompTIA Security+ certification (or any certification that aligns with DoD 8570 IAT Level II) before the start date is strongly encouraged.
  • Hands-On Experience: Experience from home labs, class projects, hackathons, or prior internships is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Web development using UI frameworks like React.
    • Containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
    • Cloud environments (AWS is a plus).
    • Agile development tools like JIRA and Confluence.
