Job description

About The Weather Company:
The Weather Company is the world's leading weather provider, helping people and businesses make more informed decisions and take action in the face of weather. Together with advanced technology and AI, The Weather Company's high-volume weather data, insights, advertising, and media solutions across the open web help people, businesses, and brands around the world prepare for and harness the power of weather in a scalable, privacy-forward way. The world's most accurate forecaster globally, the company reaches hundreds of enterprise clients and more than 360 million monthly active users via its digital properties from The Weather Channel (weather.com) and Weather Underground (wunderground.com).
Job brief:
You'll bring an entrepreneurial spirit to a business in transition. As we move from on-premise solutions for linear television to cloud-based weather storytelling across digital and social platforms, you will be the bridge between traditional broadcasting and the future of media. You will partner with product management and business development to understand how AI can shorten the distance between a weather forecast and an engaging social story.
You are a designer who "looks around corners" to anticipate problems and comes prepared with solutions. You are ready to gather your team, apply design thinking to complex datasets, and use AI tools to rapidly iterate from concept to development. You thrive in an environment where you are expected to challenge product assumptions and be a "plus" contributor in front of customers and sales teams.
The impact you'll make:
  • AI Augmented Design: Leverage the latest AI tools (e.g., Claude, VS Code, Cursor, Figma AI, Adobe Firefly, etc) to shorten the time from concept to development, ensuring design is a seamless part of the high-speed handoff process. You will drive a "workplace of the future" environment where AI is leveraged for daily operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Platform Storytelling: Design the tools that empower meteorologists to create and distribute engaging content across digital and social platforms, reaching younger audiences where they live.
  • B2B2C Complexity: Simplify complex data sets into intuitive actions for news stations (B2B) while ensuring the end-consumer experience (B2C) is delightful and engaging.
  • Prototyping & Interaction: Rapidly build wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes that clearly convey how our solutions can help uncover and tell weather stories.
  • Collaboration & Autonomy: Drive your own work with minimum direction, collaborating deeply with Product and Engineering to ensure design feasibility and behavioral excellence.
  • Customer Advocacy: Support sales and business development by presenting design solutions directly to national and local news stations.
  • Define user personas, user journeys, and information architecture to create intuitive and user-friendly experiences.
  • A passion for user research techniques, user testing, and gathering validation in order to process insights so you can rapidly iterate on user experiences.

What you've accomplished:
  • 5+ years of experience driving user experience and visual design for either B2B/enterprise and/or consumer applications.
  • AI Workflow Proficiency: Proven experience using AI tools across the design process to accelerate workflows and solve user problems. Expertise in Figma and the latest design/AI suites (Claude, Midjourney, etc.), with a track record of maintaining high-fidelity design systems.
  • Content Creation Familiarity: Experience or strong familiarity with modern video editing and content creation tools like Adobe Premiere or other video suites.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing the simplification of complex data and a deep understanding of trends that connect with younger audiences on digital/social platforms.
  • Communication & Presence: Excellent collaboration skills with a history of effectively "challenging and being challenged" by product partners to reach the best outcome.
  • A deep understanding of what it takes to design for native mobile apps and responsive web patterns in a media context.
  • Personal or professional experience in social media content creation or digital storytelling.

TWCo Benefits/Perks:
  • Flexible Time Off program
  • Hybrid work model
  • Variety of medical insurance options including a $0 cost premium employee coverage
  • Benefits effective day 1 of employment include competitive 401K match with no vesting requirement, national health, dental, and vision plans
  • Progressive family plan benefits
  • An opportunity to work for a global and industry-leading technology company
  • Impactful work in a collaborative environment
