Job Summary:
The Construction Lift Spotter is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of aerial lifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and forklifts on construction sites. This role focuses on maintaining clear communication with lift operators, identifying potential hazards, and protecting workers, equipment, and surrounding structures. The Lift Spotter plays a critical role in job site safety and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a dedicated spotter for aerial lifts, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
- Monitor lift movement to prevent contact with personnel, structures, overhead utilities, and equipment.
- Maintain clear line-of-sight with lift operators and provide hand signals or radio communication as needed.
- Identify and communicate hazards such as uneven ground, overhead obstructions, power lines, and pedestrian traffic.
- Establish and maintain exclusion zones and barricades around lift operations.
- Assist operators with positioning, loading, and unloading materials when required.
- Stop lift operations immediately if unsafe conditions are observed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, site-specific safety plans, and company policies.
- Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
- Document safety concerns or near-miss incidents and report them to supervision.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous construction or industrial job site experience required.
- Knowledge of aerial lift and forklift safety practices.
- Ability to understand and use standard hand signals for equipment operation.
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Clear verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to identify hazards and communicate warnings.
