Key Wealth Management

Key Wealth Management "KWM" has a long history (over 150 years) of providing trust, custody, and investment management solutions to high-net-worth individuals, families, and institutional/non-profit clients with over $40 billion in assets.

The Key Wealth Management Advisory Services Internship is a 10.5-week, wealth planning experience that immerses the intern in the goals-based planning process - from the discovery conversation to written plan to client presentation - for high-net-worth individuals and families.

Essential Functions

  • Learn and think critically about the end-to-end Wealth Planning process - discovery, data gathering, cash-flow and retirement modeling, estate and tax overlays, insurance/risk review, and recommendation delivery.
  • Partner with the Advisory Services team to understand the unique planning objectives, life-stage priorities, and behavioral preferences of a designated target demographic (e.g., business owners, multi-generational families, or executives with concentrated stock).
  • Construct a mock financial plan from discovery to presentation, practicing how to frame trade-offs, respond to client objections, and communicate complex concepts (asset location, Roth conversions, gifting strategies) in plain language.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering a positive team experience by engaging actively with each Wealth Advisor, Planner, and team member on your pod.
  • Engage in Key Corp Enterprise learning labs and networking events.
  • Develop and present a Final Project featuring a planning solution for a hypothetical client case to senior Advisory Services leadership.
  • Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key's clients and Key.

Education

  • Pursuing a four-year degree or graduate level degree by May 2029 with focused coursework in wealth management, financial planning, finance, accounting, business, and/or economics (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork through past work experience and/or extracurricular activities. Outstanding academic achievement with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Skills

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data and client information to support planning and decision-making.
  • Problem Solving: Capability to identify issues and develop effective solutions in a financial services context.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for team collaboration.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to create and deliver presentations using tools like PowerPoint.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and reporting.

Physical Demands

  • General Office: Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in-person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

Driving/Travel

  • Ability to routinely and frequently operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license.
