Job description

Objective
The Environmental Sustainability Engineer/Leader in Sheboygan WI will design and execute Nemak USA's environmental compliance and sustainability strategy. Acting as a technical authority and strategic advisor, this person will ensure adherence to all environmental regulations, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance energy performance. The role serves as a critical partner to both site-level environmental professionals and HSE management, fostering alignment and innovation.
Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all Nemak USA sites comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., EPA, WDNR).
  • Lead programs focused on air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management across multiple sites; Support implementation and ongoing maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Conduct targeted environmental audits and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Act as the liaison for Nemak USA with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute a cross-site energy roadmap, including renewable energy sourcing, fuel switching, and on-site power production strategies.
  • Lead decarbonization initiatives aimed at reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Implement ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, a new step for Nemak USA.
  • Identify and oversee energy efficiency projects, targeting a minimum annual energy usage reduction of 3%.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report energy KPIs, consumption trends, and emissions data.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations for sustainability capital expenditure (Capex) planning and return-on-investment analysis.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops and share best practices within Nemak USA and with global teams.
  • Align local initiatives with Nemak's global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) priorities and Climate Task Force mandates.
  • Provide expert guidance to Environmental Coordinators and Specialists throughout the organization.
  • Work closely with HSE Managers to identify and close gaps in compliance and performance.
  • Represent Nemak USA in both internal and external sustainability forums, amplifying the company's commitment to environmental leadership.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance and sustainability management within manufacturing settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of EPA, WDNR, and related regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and a strong interest or experience in ISO 50001 implementation preferred.
  • Outstanding communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to Nemak USA facilities.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential, experience with melting operations and environmental controls, and familiarity with WDNR requirements.
