Job description

JOB TITLE
Wisconsin Conservatory of Music Faculty
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Part-time
LOCATION
WCM Faculty work at our 3 WCM locations and at over 50 partner sites throughout the greater Milwaukee metro area.
HOURS
Hours are determined based on availability and teaching assignment and range from 3-25 hours per week.
START DATE
Applications are reviewed and interviews are scheduled on a rolling basis throughout the year.
After a period of review, offers of employment are extended to candidates at three points during the year:
  • Early December - for private lessons and group classes beginning in spring
  • Early April - for private lessons and group classes beginning in summer
  • Early August - for Community Partnerships, private lesson and group classes beginning in fall

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Join a team of highly qualified musicians who are at the heart of our mission, providing exceptional instruction through private lessons, group classes, early childhood programs, and our extensive Community Partnerships initiatives.
Early Childhood
  • Faculty teaching in our Early Childhood program receive extensive, paid training and mentorship.
  • WCM EC instructors, along with their caregivers, lead students aged birth through 4 in developmentally appropriate musical activities.
  • Early Childhood faculty teach at our 3 branches as well as in our Community Partnerships programs.

Group Classes/Ensembles
  • WCM faculty teach group classes in blues, chamber music, jazz, music appreciation, piano, rock, and Suzuki strings.
  • Lesson plans are provided for group classes.
  • Area coordinators assist faculty with curriculum development and mentorship.

Private Lessons
  • Private Lesson instructors teach 34 weeks during the academic year and 8 weeks during the summer at our three locations.
  • Student registration, scheduling, billing, and payment are managed through our Student Services team.
  • Students take 30-, 45-, or 60-minute lessons, depending upon their age and ability levels.

Community Partnerships
  • Through our Community Partnerships program, faculty take music education beyond the Conservatory walls to nearly 60 public and private schools, early childhood centers, and retirement communities.
  • Faculty receive extensive, paid training, observation hours, and mentorship prior to placement at a Community Partnerships site.
  • The Education Team handles all class scheduling as well as providing lesson plans and classroom instruments to all Community Partnerships teachers.

All WCM Teaching Artists receive ongoing support and guidance from WCM's Education Team, Professional Development Series, and Peer Mentorship Program. Our faculty further enriches the community with our Faculty Performance Series, School Recruitment Initiative, and numerous public events.

Wisconsin Conservatory of Music
The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music is the state's largest non-profit community music school. Founded in 1899, the Conservatory is committed to providing musical education to individuals of all abilities, ranging from infants to senior citizens. The Conservatory works to develop creative, artistic, and whole individuals. The Conservatory annually reaches over 10,000 individuals across southeast Wisconsin through individual lessons, classes, and Community Partnerships. The Community Partnerships outreach program is the primary tool used by the Conservatory to reach underserved populations in southeastern Wisconsin. Without dedicated faculty serving this population, many of these students would not have access to music instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in music or 3 to 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience leading groups of children (in classrooms, youth groups, community organizations, camps, childcare facilities, etc.).
  • Bilingual music educators are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate must show exceptional maturity and leadership and an ability to effectively communicate and follow the mission of the Conservatory and the policies of the President and Board of Directors.
