Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a Part time Welding - Support Staff to support Welding credit courses. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, resume, and transcripts, you will be considered for support opportunities on a per course basis OR per semester basis.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Help prepare the lab for class by turning on exhaust fans, welding gasses shop/booth lights and unlock metal room doors.
โ€ข Check stock of metal bins in the lab and restock as necessary.
โ€ข Setup and breakdown welding process demonstration stations.
โ€ข Sort scrap metal bins and recycle any reusable material.
โ€ข Field phone calls received and relay information to appropriate staff.
โ€ข Manage the tool crib by tracking tools provided to students.
โ€ข Monitor and report on inventory levels of instructional supplies and tools housed in the tool crib.
โ€ข Sanitize and maintain safety gear housed in tool crib.
โ€ข Ensure booths are clean, safe and prepped with appropriate supplies needed for each process.
โ€ข Check and maintain proper water level in quench tanks.
โ€ข Clean and maintain fabrication/welding booth tables and surrounding area.
โ€ข Replace welding gas cylinders when necessary.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.
โ€ข Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
Related Duties:
โ€ข Assist with promotional events and competitions.
โ€ข Understand the department's course curriculum and objectives.
โ€ข Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support the effective performance of assigned duties, enhance productivity, improve communication and information management, support decision-making, and other responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
Hours/Schedule:
This position will work less than 20 hours per week with some varying hours-morning, afternoons, nights and weekends.
Physical Demands: Capable of lifting and transporting at least 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
โ€ข Experience with arc welding, oxy-fuel and plasma processes.
โ€ข Completed or currently enrolled in a WAF class.
โ€ข Proficient in sending and receiving email correspondence.
โ€ข Capable of reading measuring devices.
โ€ข Available to work morning, afternoons, nights and weekends.
โ€ข Must have means of transportation to and from work.
โ€ข Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.
