Job description

Position: Data Analytics-Based Systems Engineer and Technical Assistant
Position Type: Full-time Onsite
Position Location: Chantilly, VA
Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI with CI Poly
Waypoint's client is seeking a Data Analytics-Based Systems Engineer and Technical Assistant to support a U.S. Government customer in Chantilly, VA. The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis expertise, broad IT knowledge (networks, hosting, desktops), and experience advising on emerging technologies. This role requires proactive problem-solving, technical advisement, and the ability to deliver consistent, value-added recommendations to support IT infrastructure provisioning and service delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong background in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, computer science, physics, economics, engineering, statistics, operations research).
  • Break down complex business problems, define solutions, and implement them using advanced quantitative methods.
  • Apply programming expertise in Python, SQL, or R for data analytics.
  • Deliver analytics products including statistical analysis, data queries, pipelines, presentation, and dashboarding.
  • Design analytical visualizations and custom dashboards in collaboration with other Data Science/Analysis staff.
  • Work with service providers and product management to implement innovative analytic and visualization approaches.
  • Oversee and prioritize data analytics tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Proactively identify gaps in service requirements and formulate approaches to resolve them.
  • Provide detailed recommendations on techniques, tools, and implementation strategies for meeting business needs.
  • Lead or coordinate execution of project engagements, ensuring accurate and timely completion without direct oversight.
  • Act as a change agent to ensure quality assurance and promote adoption of standardized IT service deliveries.
  • Produce deliverables in a thorough, practical, and consistent manner aligned with organizational objectives.
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field and 5+ years of experience, OR Master's degree in a STEM-related field and 3+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in ServiceNow analytics and dashboard creation.
  • Broad IT experience (networks, hosting, desktops) and knowledge of IT architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Splunk and visualization tools such as Tableau.
  • Experience with data analytics tools including Python, R, Jupyter Notebooks, Anaconda.
  • Familiarity with configuration management databases (CMDBs) and associated schema.
Desired
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to brief senior decision-makers.
  • Experience applying ITSM/ITIL principles to improve service delivery.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies applicable to IT infrastructure modernization.
