Position Description

Concrete Finishers and Laborers to perform a wide range of duties that may change depending on the type of project they are working on and the team members they are working with.
  • Placing forms that hold concrete to ensure the required depth and pitch is achieved
  • Removing edges on expansion joints and sides
  • Installing anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete
  • Polishing surfaces using smoothing materials, abrasive tools and surfacing machines
  • Aligning forms for sidewalks, curbs and gutters
  • Waterproofing, damp-proofing and restoring concrete surfaces
  • Signaling truck drivers and moving chutes to facilitate pouring concrete onto forms
  • Casting and spreading concrete to patch voids
  • Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete

Position Requirements
  • Knowledge of working with concrete
  • Practical skills to operate power tools and machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
  • Pour, level and smooth concrete for surfaces such as roads, curbs, sidewalks
  • Operate concrete saw, curb and/or paving machine
  • Seal joints, set string line
  • Physical ability - concrete finishers and laborers, stand long periods of time, bend and crouch to perform their job duties, all of which require physical ability
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work long hours
