What is waterproofing and why is it important?

Waterproofing is the process of making a structure or surface resistant to water penetration. It is crucial for protecting buildings, basements, roofs, and other structures from water damage, which can lead to mold growth, structural deterioration, and costly repairs. Effective waterproofing extends the lifespan of buildings and maintains a healthy indoor environment by preventing leaks and moisture buildup.

What is a waterproofing job?

Waterproofing jobs are available in commercial and residential construction industries. Construction, roofing, general contracting, and masonry companies hire waterproofers for a range of building site tasks. As a waterproofer, you apply caulking, sealants, and coatings to roofing and structural joints to prevent water from getting through. Your responsibilities include determining the appropriate materials and processes to repair and waterproof a roof, ensuring clean and proper application of caulking and other compounds, and following company guidelines to complete each task. Job duties involve climbing up and down ladders, navigating difficult terrain while at high elevation, and working in all weather conditions to meet deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a waterproofing specialist?

To thrive as a Waterproofing Specialist, you need a solid understanding of construction practices, building materials, and safety procedures, often supported by on-the-job training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with waterproofing systems, sealants, membranes, and tools like moisture meters is important, and certifications such as those from the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) can be beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help ensure quality work and smooth collaboration with clients and other trades. These competencies are crucial to prevent water damage, uphold structural integrity, and deliver reliable, long-lasting results.

What are the most common challenges faced by waterproofing professionals on construction sites?

Waterproofing professionals often encounter challenges such as working in tight or hard-to-reach spaces, managing weather-related delays, and ensuring surfaces are properly prepared before application. Coordination with other trades is crucial, as waterproofing tasks often depend on the schedule and completion of other construction activities. Staying updated with the latest materials and application techniques is also important to meet safety standards and achieve long-lasting results.

Job description

Working Foreman - Basement Waterproofing

$25-$35/hour + Health & Dental + Retirement Match + Paid Training + Year-Round Work

Lead a Crew. Work With Your Hands. Build Something You Can Be Proud Of.

If you're an experienced construction professional who is ready to take the lead, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

At Oriole Basement Waterproofing, our Foremen don't sit on the sidelines telling other people what to do. You will lead your crew, work alongside them, solve problems in the field, interact with homeowners, and take ownership of each project from start to finish.

We're looking for someone who knows construction, takes pride in their work, and wants the opportunity to grow into a strong leader.

You don't need to know basement waterproofing. We'll teach you our process.

What matters most is that you know how to lead people, solve problems, work safely, and get the job done right.

What You'll Get
  • $25-$35/hour, based on experience
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Employer-matched retirement savings plan
  • Paid training - we'll teach you our waterproofing systems
  • Year-round work - no seasonal layoffs
  • Paid drive time back to the shop
  • Opportunity to grow into higher-level leadership
  • A company that values quality over shortcuts
  • A team that takes pride in doing the job right
  • The opportunity to build skills in a specialized and growing trade
What Your Day Will Look Like

You'll be responsible for running residential basement waterproofing projects while working alongside your crew.

You'll:

  • Lead and motivate your crew on the jobsite
  • Review job plans, work orders, and contracts before starting
  • Plan ahead and keep the project moving
  • Communicate with homeowners and answer questions professionally
  • Solve problems when unexpected issues come up
  • Complete basement demolition and excavation work
  • Install sump pumps and perform basic plumbing work
  • Remove and reinstall toilets, sinks, washers, and dryers when required
  • Complete concrete patching and basic restoration
  • Operate construction equipment safely
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
  • Train and develop less-experienced crew members
  • Make sure our quality and safety standards are followed on every job
We're Looking for Someone Who...

Has construction experience and wants to lead.

You don't have to know everything about waterproofing. We can teach the technical side of the trade.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in residential or general construction
  • Has experience leading a crew or is ready to step into a leadership role
  • Is comfortable working with their hands every day
  • Can read and understand job plans and contracts
  • Thinks ahead and solves problems instead of waiting for someone else
  • Communicates well with homeowners and coworkers
  • Takes pride in quality workmanship
  • Can stay calm when things don't go according to plan
  • Is dependable and takes ownership of their work
  • Has a valid driver's license
  • Can obtain DOT certification
Experience in These Areas Is a Plus

You don't need all of these.

  • Basement waterproofing
  • Foundation repair
  • Plumbing
  • Concrete
  • Masonry
  • Residential construction
  • Mini skid steer or mini excavator
  • Construction equipment

If you're a strong construction professional who learns quickly, don't let the lack of waterproofing experience stop you from applying.

Why Oriole?

At Oriole Basement Waterproofing, we help homeowners protect one of their biggest investments.

We believe in doing the job right--not cutting corners to get it done faster.

You'll work with a team that supports each other, takes pride in the finished product, and wants to see good people grow.

This isn't just another construction job.

It's an opportunity to learn a specialized trade, lead your own crew, build your skills, and grow with a company that is continuing to expand.

Ready to Take the Lead?

If you're the person your coworkers already look to when something needs to get done, we'd like to talk to you.

Apply today and tell us a little about your construction experience.

We'd love to meet you.
