Job description

ATCS is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team as a Water Resources Engineer. This is a hybrid role with three days per week required onsite in our Herndon, VA office.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the strategic growth efforts of our Transportation Water Resources design services group throughout the company. The Water Resources Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks primarily supporting MDOT, VDOT, and PennDOT. The diversity of responsibilities requires a flexible mindset and cooperative team-oriented attitude with progressively increasing technical capabilities.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Conduct technical design for a variety of water resources transportation projects including stormwater management, drainage design, erosion and sediment control design, and stream restoration designs.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulics studies/modeling and analysis for culverts, drainage systems, bridges, streams, watershed studies, and other floodplain studies
  • Prepare CADD plans and GIS exhibits.
  • Support the review work performed by other engineers, and consultants including QA/QC.
  • Develop reports in support of broader engineering activities involving stormwater management, design of stormwater quantity and quality control measures and/or facilities (specifically to the Virginia Stormwater Management Handbook).
  • Utilizes TR-20, Rational method, Streamstat, HEC-RAS to develop 1D and 2D models for hydrologic and hydraulics analysis. Ability to use HEC-17, HEC-18, HEC-20, & HEC-23.
  • Utilizes ARC-GIS and HEC-HMS as needed.
  • Utilizes CADD to develop 3D models and develop construction plans.
  • Work under senior-level engineers and managers to provide innovative design solutions and solve project challenges.
  • Communicate with internal and external clients to ensure an effective water resources design development process.
  • Work in a team environment between multiple disciplines on a daily basis.
  • Perform reviews of design plans, specifications, and estimates prepared by others.
  • Occasionally travel to other offices and project sites as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree Civil/Environmental Engineering from ABET accredited engineering program.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • 3+ years๏ฟฝ experience in Water Resources Design Engineering for transportation engineering projects with topics such as H&H modeling, floodplain management, stream restoration, stormwater management design, drainage design, and erosion and sediment control design. Bridge hydraulic modeling and scour analysis not required but a plus.
  • Demonstrate working ability with hydraulic computer design software such as:
    • Microstation, Inroads, OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, Pond Pack, HEC-RAS, GISHydro, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, WinTR-55, WinTR-20, ArcGIS, Excel, AutoCAD 3D, HEC-RAS
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others.

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $82,000 - $127,000per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
