Job description

LIFEGUARD
IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ FIRST

  • Position to begin work in May 2026. Successful applicants should be available to work from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2026.
  • College students may end the season prior to Labor Day, with prior approval.
  • Lifeguards are expected to request no more than 2 weeks of vacation during the season.
  • By State law, all positions that work with minors require three background clearances to be obtained prior to the first day of work. You should allow 4-6 weeks to obtain all clearances. If you work for at least one month, we will reimburse for the cost of the clearances ($60.25) that are obtained for you to work for us. NATURE OF WORK
  • This is a part-time summer working position responsible for water safety as well as the operation, care, and maintenance of Swim Center Facilities.
  • Position is eligible for overtime pay (for lifeguards 16 and older).
  • Lifeguards are not eligible for paid sick time due to being a seasonal position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supervises patrons and enforces all facility rules.
  • Performs water rescues as needed in a variety of situations.
  • Performs basic first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Inspects the facilities daily and reports all unsafe conditions.
  • Performs cleaning and basic maintenance on the facility and equipment.
  • Assists as needed in start-up and closing down of all facilities.
  • Assists in special event set-ups and operations.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs all other work assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of seasonal pool operation and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic tools.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals used in facilities.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • First Aid/AED/CPR skills.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Certified in CPR
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Hearing, seeing (close up and distance), standing, sitting, climbing, bending, verbal communication (including shouting), hand movements, holding, lifting (60+ lbs.) waving arms, running on deck and in water, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping, and feeling. Ability to swim.
  • Ability to work in direct sunshine and wind. Ability to tolerate inclement weather including rain, heat, humidity and cold.
  • High level of concentration required, including on pool and deck areas.
  • Independent decision-making pertaining to proper rescue and treatment in emergency situations, in accordance with defined policy.
