Position Summary Information
General Summary
The Student Intern - Water Quality will assist with functions related to drinking water compliance issues, water quality customer complaint response, emergency response preparedness, and distribution system monitoring.
Essential Functions
  • Water quality (pH, chlorine, conductivity, etc.) data analysis
  • Assist with water quality monitoring panel operations and maintenance
  • Observe/assist with customer complaint handling and correspondence
  • Assist with operation and inventory for water quality response laboratory instrumentation
  • Attend meetings regarding water utility response laboratory instrumentation
  • Attend meetings regarding water utility operations, water quality regulation, customer issues, etc
  • Review/respond to customer complaint data ad develop reports on metrics
  • Assist with lead and copper rule compliance program
  • Assist with source water protection monitoring and studies
Other Functions
  • Process/record sample data to develop baseline for emergency response equipment
  • Evaluate source water monitoring data
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
Work Environment And Physical Demands
  • Field work with monitoring equipment at water filtration plants and pumping stations
  • Reservoir monitoring sampling
  • Bench top laboratory work
  • Office/desk environment about 50% of time
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to use MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
  • College student majoring in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or other related discipline
  • Successful completion of college-level chemistry, biology and microbiology coursework
  • Basic laboratory skills
Additional Requirements
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Must be able to meet and follow laboratory safety requirements
Preferences
  • Completion of coursework in hydrology, fluid mechanics
  • Non-academic laboratory experience
