Job description

WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible to operate the water treatment facility to provide safe quality water for consumption and fire protection. The work is performed under the supervision of the Water and Sewer Utilities Superintendent.

SCHEDULE:

Regular Days/Hours for Position: Summer Hours: Monday - Friday 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM; Regular Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma/equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years' water treatment plant operating experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Class D - Drinking Water Operator Certification in Illinois within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for eligibility of City coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post high school education in biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Current Class C or Class D - Drinking Water Operator Certification in Illinois.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

Starting pay rate is $32.75 per hour in accordance with the Local 150 Union contract. Position includes eligibility for full benefits package of group health insurance, benefit time, and IMRF retirement plan.
