What is a watch repair technician?

A watch repair job involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining timepieces, including wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks. Watch repairers clean and lubricate components, replace batteries, fix broken parts, and adjust mechanisms to ensure accurate timekeeping. They may work with both mechanical and quartz watches, requiring precision and attention to detail. Some professionals also restore antique or luxury watches, preserving their functionality and value.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a watch repair technician?

As a Watch Repair technician, your daily tasks typically include diagnosing issues in mechanical and quartz watches, performing delicate disassembly and cleaning, replacing parts, and reassembling timepieces to ensure accurate operation. You may also conduct battery replacements, pressure tests for water resistance, and polishing repairs for aesthetic restoration. Most work is done in a workshop setting, either independently or as part of a small team, with occasional interactions with customers to discuss repair needs or provide estimates. Attention to fine details, steady hands, and a methodical approach are crucial to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the watch repair position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Watch Repair technician, you need strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of horology, often gained through vocational training or apprenticeships. Familiarity with specialized tools like lathes, watches timing machines, and magnification devices, as well as certifications from organizations such as the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI), are valuable. Patience, problem-solving ability, and excellent customer communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure precise and reliable repairs, uphold customer trust, and contribute to a reputable service experience.

How much money can you make fixing watches?

Watch repair technicians typically earn between $30,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and skill level. Certified professionals with specialized tools and a strong client base can earn higher incomes, especially in high-end or luxury markets.

Is watch repair a dying trade?

Watch repair is a specialized trade that has declined with the rise of quartz and digital watches, but there is still demand for skilled technicians who can service luxury, vintage, or mechanical watches. Many repair shops and watchmakers continue to operate, often requiring knowledge of traditional tools and techniques, and some professionals find opportunities in niche markets or high-end servicing.

Job description

Jewelry Sales Associate

We are a fine jewelry design studio and retail showroom specializing in distinctive engagement rings, wedding bands, custom jewelry, natural and lab-grown diamonds, and colored gemstones.

We believe jewelry should feel personal, thoughtful, and beautifully made. Our approach is centered around exceptional service, genuine relationships, and creating an experience that feels very different from traditional jewelry retail.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a reliable, personable, and detail-oriented Jewelry Sales Associate to join our team.

About the Role

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys jewelry, working with people, and providing a high level of personalized service.

You will work directly with customers throughout the entire jewelry experienceโ€”from helping someone select a special piece to taking in a repair, assisting with an engagement ring purchase, placing special orders, and following up after the sale.

Because we are a small, growing business, this position requires someone who is self-motivated, dependable, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of their responsibilities. We are looking for someone who can become a trusted part of the team and, with time, work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional, personalized customer service from greeting through post-sale follow-up
  • Build genuine, long-term relationships with customers
  • Assist customers with jewelry selections based on their individual style, needs, and budget
  • Assist with engagement rings, wedding bands, custom jewelry, gemstones, and special orders
  • Process sales transactions and customer orders accurately
  • Place jewelry and repair orders through vendor portals, catalogs, and directly with vendors
  • Accept jewelry and watch repair orders and provide pricing based on established store pricing
  • Assist with repair coordination, parts ordering, and customer follow-up
  • Assist with procurement and presentation of higher-value jewelry and engagement rings
  • Maintain accurate inventory and organized store operations
  • Maintain a polished, beautiful showroom and high visual merchandising standards
  • Ability to photograph jewelry and assist with social media content when needed
  • Help with occasional local errands and other day-to-day tasks
  • Support overall store operations and contribute to sales growth
  • Represent our brand with professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail
What We're Looking For
  • Previous fine jewelry or luxury retail experience preferred
  • Genuine interest in fine jewelry, diamonds, and gemstones
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Warm, confident, and professional personality
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Able to work independently and take initiative
  • Comfortable handling confidential customer information and high-value merchandise
  • Comfortable using computers, POS systems, email, and online vendor platforms
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
A Great Fit for This Role

The right person is someone who takes pride in their work and understands that in a small business, every detail matters.

You don't need to know everything about jewelry on day oneโ€”we can teach the right person. What matters most is that you are reliable, honest, curious, eager to learn, great positive attitude and genuinely enjoy helping people.

We are looking for someone who wants to become a trusted member of the teamโ€”not simply someone looking for a retail job.

Additional Skills โ€” A Plus, But Not Required
  • GIA or other gemological education
  • Experience changing watch batteries
  • Basic knowledge of jewelry repair
  • Laser engraving experience
  • Jewelry photography
  • Social media content creation
  • Experience with Shopify or other e-commerce platforms
  • Experience with luxury or high-ticket sales
Schedule

Current preferred availability:

  • 34 hours

The position is based in Fairfield, CT.

Compensation

Competitive hourly compensation based on experience, with opportunities for growth as responsibilities increase.

How to Apply

Please send your rรฉsumรฉ and a brief introduction telling us about yourself, your experience, and why you would be a good fit for jewelry store.

We look forward to meeting someone who shares our passion for beautiful jewelry, exceptional service, and creating meaningful experiences for our customers.
