Primary Purpose Performs laborer duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of County Solid Waste service facilities. Essential Job Functions Performs laborer duties in the operations for maintenance and repair of County Solid Waste facilities to include cleaning, grounds maintenance work, weeding, grounds cleaning, sweeping, brush and tree removal, fence installations and directing traffic. Operates equipment like self-propelled sweepers, jack hammers, compressors, and water pumps and other hand tools.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; loads and unloads materials needed for work. Assists the maintenance technician and performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Ensures proper care and follows established safety protocols in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Performs other duties as directed or assigned. Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work and of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices. Skill in the safe operation of hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.
Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Supplemental Information Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, allergens, animals, heights, wastewater, and extreme heat or cold. Work involves high risk and potentially dangerous situations working near hazardous/moving materials, equipment, and machinery; exposure to excessive noise; and working with hostile and/or offensive individuals. The use of protective clothing, equipment, devices and materials is required.
Work requires the ability to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell; clarity of vision at short and long distance; and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. Work schedules may include evening and weekend hours. May be required to report to work at one or more of seven transfer stations.
Conditions of Employment: Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver's License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
