Overview
The Solid Waste Worker - Flex Pool plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of our community. This position involves operating various types of waste collection vehicles and performing essential tasks related to the collection and disposal of solid waste. The ideal candidate will be committed to safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship while ensuring that all waste is handled properly.

Flex staff are employed on an "as needed" basis.

Job Description:
  • Perform routine manual work in the collection of garbage, trash, and yard waste.
  • Work as part of a crew to load trash, debris, and junked furniture and appliances from roadsides.
  • Clean areas around cans and pick up loose trash.
  • Assist with dumping solid waste at the landfill.
  • Help clean and maintain trucks and tools.
  • Ensure safety of self and co-workers.
  • Collects assigned solid waste collections from the curb.
  • Collect yard waste materials and collect recyclable materials.
  • Clean up litter that is spilled during the normal collection process.
  • Able to lift at least 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Willing and able to work in various types of weather conditions (high temperatures, snow, rain, sleet, etc.).

Qualifications:
  • Some knowledge of the occupational hazards of working in traffic and with garbage and refuse.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work at a steady pace for an extended period in varying weather conditions.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 6 months of work experience in general maintenance.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
