About the Role:

The Yard Jockey/Switcher plays a critical role in the efficient operation of transportation and warehousing facilities by safely moving trailers and railcars within the yard. This position ensures that equipment is properly positioned for loading, unloading, and dispatch, directly impacting the flow of goods and overall supply chain effectiveness. The role requires close coordination with warehouse personnel, drivers, and dispatchers to maintain seamless yard operations. Attention to safety protocols and operational procedures is paramount to prevent accidents and equipment damage. Ultimately, the Yard Jockey/Switcher contributes to minimizing delays and optimizing yard productivity through precise and timely equipment movements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements as required by the employer.
  • Proven experience operating yard trucks, tractors, or switcher locomotives in a transportation or warehousing environment.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and operational procedures related to yard operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions accurately.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and yard management systems.
  • Familiarity with railcar switching operations and railroad safety standards.
  • Additional certifications related to equipment operation or safety training.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues with yard equipment.
