Job description

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for Sorter.

Job Summary
Receives, sorts, sets prices, packs, and distributes merchandise ensuring all items are processed in an efficient, effective and timely manner in accordance with established Salvation Army policies and procedures and local, state and federal regulations. Sorts merchandise into designated price bins based on quality and condition of merchandise; separates damaged items to be discarded and/or sent to the baler. Maintains a clean, orderly, work environment. Ensures that the sorting area is maintained in a clean and orderly manner and that all equipment receives proper maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to sort merchandise based on price.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, and six months experience sorting and pricing merchandise in a retail environment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Moderate physical effort required associated with lifting and carrying 5 to 25 pounds of merchandise, materials, and supplies on a frequent basis. Must be able to push or pull moderately heavy loads, 25 to 100 pounds, of merchandise, materials, and supplies on an occasional basis. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and some climbing. Work is are usually performed in a warehouse environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
