Position Summary/Objective

The Warehouse Associate promotes a culture of safety, hospitality, service, honor, and respect among our homeless guests, our staff, and volunteers, for the purpose of furthering the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Warehouse Associate is responsible for daily operations of the donation dock, assisting customers, loading and unloading goods, coordinating customer pick up of merchandise/furniture with sales associates, sorting incoming materials, maintaining an orderly dock area, and providing receipts when requested for donations received. The Warehouse Associate works in cooperation and collaboration with the General Manager, store and warehouse staff.

The Warehouse Associate must have exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail, the physical ability to lift 50 lbs., and work hard and efficiently in all weather conditions. This position also requires motivation, and the ability to work as part of a team.ย  Must present a positive, professional image.

Essential functions

  • Greet customers and accept donations at the dock.
  • Sort multiple containers of materials to determine what is sellable, recyclable, or trash and place it in the correct location.
  • Proficiently and correctly check product for defects.
  • Safely use pallet jack, dolly, and furniture moving equipment.
  • Transport items to and from sales floor.
  • Maintain neat and orderly dock area, including surrounding areas.
  • Pick up items that have been left in donation bins overnight.
  • Maintain safety and security standards for employees, donors and volunteers. Report unsafe practices or situations immediately. Continually support the agency safety program and control customer and employee safety.
  • Maintain security of donations and report any suspected misuse/theft.
  • Assist in ensuring that all dock doors are locked and secure prior to leaving each evening.
  • Adhere to store attendance policy
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bale Merchandise as needed

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Responsible for decisions regarding maintenance, rotation, and dispersal of all donated items.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and security of all areas related to donation dock.
  • Consult with Production Manager regarding any decisions outside regular job duties.ย 

Physical demands

  • Safely lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, and twist continuously throughout the shift

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year work experience in a thift/resale environment with production/warehouse experience

Preferred education and experience

  • Self-motivated, organized, able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated, excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse populations
  • Good verbal communication skillsย ย ย 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production/warehouse environment
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods, and lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. for short distances
  • Ability to use a pallet jack is helpful, but not necessary
  • Ability to be flexible in multi-duty environment
  • Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict
