Job description

Position Summary

The Technical Designer will support the US Wholesale Product Development team with a primary focus on Walmart. This role is responsible for ensuring fit, construction, quality, and compliance from concept through production. The ideal candidate has deep experience in mass retail, strong technical expertise, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with Design, Production, Merchandising, and overseas vendors to meet aggressive timelines and cost targets.

This role is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring a strong understanding of Walmart standards, fit consistency, and production readiness at scale.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Fit

  • Own fit and construction for assigned categories, ensuring consistency across styles and size ranges
  • Lead fit sessions (in-person and virtual), provide clear fit comments, and track revisions through approval
  • Review and approve samples from proto through PP and TOP
  • Ensure all garments meet Walmart fit, quality, and compliance standards

Product Development & Production Support

  • Partner closely with Design and Production to ensure styles are engineered for cost, quality, and manufacturability
  • Provide technical guidance on pattern corrections, grading, construction methods, and fabric performance
  • Review and approve tech packs, specs, BOMs, and measurement standards
  • Support vendor communication by providing detailed, actionable feedback

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure all products meet Walmart testing, labeling, and compliance requirements
  • Identify potential quality or production risks early and recommend solutions
  • Partner with QA and Production teams to resolve fit or construction issues during bulk production

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Merchandising, Design, Production, and Sourcing teams to meet deadlines and margin targets
  • Participate in style reviews and line adoption meetings
  • Act as a technical liaison between internal teams and overseas vendors


Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of Technical Design experience in apparel, with strong mass retail and Walmart-specific experience
  • Deep understanding of fit, grading, pattern development, and garment construction
  • Experience supporting high-volume US Wholesale programs
  • Strong knowledge of Walmart compliance, testing, and packaging standards
  • Ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and technical documentation
  • Experience working with overseas vendors (Asia, Central America, etc.)


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with licensed apparel programs
  • Multi-category experience (knits, wovens, fleece, activewear, etc.)
  • Prior experience in a vertical or fast-paced private-label environment
