Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and professional Wallpaper Installer (or Paperhanger) to manage all aspects of wallpaper removal, preparation, and installation for residential and commercial clients. The ideal candidate is an independent contractor who demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, possesses all necessary tools and equipment, and maintains active, comprehensive insurance coverage.
Key Responsibilities
  • Removal and Preparation:

    • Thoroughly and safely remove existing wallpaper, ensuring minimal damage to underlying surfaces.
    • Properly prepare surfaces (e.g., cleaning, patching, sanding, sizing/priming) to ensure optimal adhesion and a flawless finished product.
  • Installation:

    • Accurately measure, cut, and match patterns for all types of wallcoverings, including but not limited to, standard papers, vinyls, grasscloth, silk, digital murals, and specialty materials.
    • Apply wallcoverings professionally, ensuring smooth, precise seams, proper alignment, and clean finishes around obstacles, corners, and trim.
  • Quality and Cleanup:

    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment throughout the project.
    • Complete a final inspection to ensure the highest quality standards are met before client handover.
Required Qualifications & Equipment
  • Experience: Proven, verifiable experience as a professional wallpaper installer/paperhanger.
  • Tools & Equipment: Must possess and provide all necessary professional-grade equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Steamers/tools for efficient wallpaper removal.
    • Sizing/priming materials, paste, and adhesives.
    • Cutting, smoothing, and measuring tools (e.g., straightedges, shears, plumb lines, seam rollers, smoothing brushes).
    • Ladders, scaffolding, and drop cloths for safety and protection.
  • References: Must provide a minimum of three (3) professional references from previous clients or contractors that can attest to the quality of work.
Essential Contractor Requirements
This is a requirement for all candidates; proof of active coverage will be required.

  • General Liability Insurance: Must carry and maintain active General Liability insurance to cover potential property damage.
  • Workers' Compensation Insurance: Must carry and maintain active Workers' Compensation insurance, or provide legally compliant documentation of exemption if applicable, in accordance with state laws.
