Excelsior Paint & Design Team | Excelsior, MN

About the Role Do you love working with color and design? Do you have an eye for merchandising and hands-on experience tinting paint and stain? Join the Excelsior Paint & Design Team! We are looking for an energetic and organized Lead Paint Department Manager to guide our team, drive retail sales, and provide an exceptional, consultative experience for our customers.

What You Will Do

Customer Experience & Sales

  • Consult & Guide: Welcome all customers, actively listen to their needs, and help them select the perfect products, colors, and wallpaper for their projects.
  • Drive Revenue: Monitor department sales numbers and proactively identify new sales opportunities.
  • Resolve Issues: Provide top-tier customer service by addressing concerns, evaluating returned merchandise, and swiftly resolving any problems.

Paint & Department Operations

  • Mix & Tint: Expertly mix and tint custom paints and stains to exact customer specifications.
  • Merchandising: Use your creativity and knowledge of design trends to build visually appealing product displays that attract customer attention.
  • Inventory Management: Utilize our software to order paint department products, receive shipments from vendors, and ensure shelves are fully stocked.
  • Maintain Standards: Keep people, products, and processes highly organized while maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe department.
  • Process Transactions: Utilize computer skills to seamlessly check customers out using our Point-of-Sale (POS) software.

Leadership

  • Team Direction: Provide management, training, and daily direction for staff, peers, and junior retail associates.

What You Bring

  • Experience: Proven work experience as a Retail Sales Representative, sales associate, or similar management role, with a strong understanding of the retail sales process and consumer behavior principles.
  • Paint Knowledge: Prior experience working with paint, stain, color matching, and tinting is highly preferred.
  • Operational Skills: Knowledge of inventory stocking procedures, basic math skills, and strong computer proficiency.
  • Core Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and leadership capabilities.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, stretch, climb ladders, and safely lift heavy boxes/paint buckets.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work various shifts, including weekends.
  • Requirements: A High School diploma (or equivalent) and a valid Driver’s License.
  • Equipment Operations: Forklift experience is required, or you must be capable of and willing to learn how to drive and operate a forklift safely.
