Job description

Forklift Operator

Position Summary

The Forklift Operator will operate an industrial forklift/ reach truck to accomplish various materials handling assignments. Performs a combination of tasks including but not limited to receiving, filling, shipping, and inspecting orders accurately and in a timely manner; efficiently and safely loads, unloads, and conveys materials. Various levels of skill are indicated below.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and transports requested materials to and from various locations including machines, loading docks, production floor, trucks, and storage areas.
  • Obtains production schedule and/or shipping orders and then identifies, verifies, and transports requested raw materials, equipment, or processing materials accordingly.
  • Applies to the understanding of machine loading capacity and loading schedule, ensuring prompt and efficient delivery of required items.
  • Uses protective materials and strapping equipment to protect and secure loads; once delivered, removes strapping and wrapping, then safely disposes of waste materials in designated containers or areas.
  • Follows all company people safety and food safety procedures.
  • Reports any problems with materials or transportation to the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate reach trucks, and other logistics equipment as required.
  • Ability to drive the following types or PIT types: High Lift, Standup, Sit-downs, Walkies, Walkie Rider, and Hand Pallet Jacks.
  • Must be able to maneuver lifts in tight spaces.
  • Perform physical inventory requests
  • Printing and labeling SAP Tags Properly
  • Proficient at RF Scan gun
  • Material Transfers in SAP
  • Freezer put away in SAP
  • Cover Production Lines
  • Basic proficiency in SAP
  • Basic math, language, and reading skills

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required:

  • Standing and/or walking throughout the shift
  • Perform physical skills: hold, feel, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and listen
  • Lifting /Carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of both hands when required, some repetitive motion required
  • Work in both extremely hot and cold temperatures as well as wet conditions.
  • Maintain single task focus
  • Have constant situational awareness
