What is a walk in clinic?

A walk-in clinic is a healthcare facility where patients can receive medical care without needing an appointment. These clinics typically offer services for minor illnesses, injuries, vaccinations, and basic health screenings. Walk-in clinics are designed for convenience, often providing extended hours and serving as an alternative to emergency rooms for non-life-threatening conditions. They are staffed by licensed healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants. Costs are generally lower than emergency room visits, making them a practical choice for quick, accessible care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a walk in clinic medical assistant?

To thrive as a Walk-In Clinic Medical Assistant, you need a solid understanding of basic clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient intake processes, often supported by a medical assistant certification or diploma. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, basic diagnostic tools, and patient scheduling software is typically required. Strong interpersonal communication, multitasking, and stress management skills help professionals excel in the fast-paced walk-in clinic environment. These skills and qualities are vital for delivering efficient, compassionate care and maintaining smooth clinic operations amid high patient volumes.

What are some common challenges faced by healthcare professionals working in a walk in clinic setting?

Healthcare professionals in walk-in clinics often manage a high volume of patients with varying medical needs, which can make time management challenging. They must quickly assess and treat patients without prior appointments, requiring strong diagnostic skills and adaptability. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team is essential, as staff work together to deliver efficient and quality care. Additionally, handling unpredictable cases and urgent situations can be demanding, making resilience and effective communication key to success in this environment.

Job description

Thrive Kids Clinic - we are specifically looking for Primary Care Pediatricians and Urgent Care Walkin Pediatrician who are interested in full-time, part-time, long-term.

Over the last 20 months, Thrive Kids has grown to be a busy pediatric practice in Toronto. Thrive elevates pediatric care through value-based healthcare and empowerment through education. We design and manage services that are easy to work with and are a win-win for everyone involved. We learn from what we practice, and we focus on sharing our insights with our community. With everything we do, Thrive believes the system improves when patients are treated as if they are family, when the team is treated as collaborative equals, and when there are positive examples from which everyone can learn.

Through this we provide to our patients and their families personalized care, education with evidence based information and a community destination where they can find refuge away from transactional healthcare. We’re just getting started and having a ton of fun doing it! Do you have what it takes to join us in designing and providing services that will meaningfully improve the lives of children and their families?

Located 2 min walk from the subway station and Go Train (Main Street Subway and Go station) in East York, East Toronto.

1) Primary Care - Have your own general practice here - Either morning shift starting 7am - 1 pm, mid-day 12 noon - 5pm. You can chose to have a 4 day clinic or a 5 day clinic.

2) Sick Visit (walkin, simple concerns, no developmental) 5-8pm - shifts are available from 5pm - 8pm on Wednesday and Friday. Monday and Tuesday 5pm-8pm can work, we already have a pediatrician at that time, but he only wants 8 patients. As he is coming from Sick Kids.

This is an exceptional chance to establish or move your practice to a densely populated residential area.

Modern turn-key operation office spaces include 4 exam rooms, with high use of technology and AI scribing in-use for all. The rooms are furnished and provided with equipment, supplies, and computers all included with no investment upfront needed.

We welcome new graduates to apply!

  • Great admin staff, registered nurse team, and in-house HR & accounting/finance team to support you every step of the way.

  • Technology focused clinic with in-takes forms for value based encounters and patients reminders/messaging
